This was from your set of pictures.
I think it needs to be turned to the right like the following picture:
(courtesy of the samba gallery)
The bottom cover will have to come off so air can flow and the top one will stay on. I hope that this will help you. You may need to find your Bentley for proper backing plate orientation. It could have been put together incorrectly(no offense to whomever did it).
p.s. I just use the quote button located at the top right of every post, to quote whichever portion of a thread is needed. You can quote multiple posts if you want, but its simpler to find what you need and hit the button. |

Guilty as charged, I fitted that.
In my defence I just transferred it over from the engine that was previously in the car not knowing there was a correct orientation.
Thanks.
Today's body shop photo. Last years repairs getting attention.
And last months work disappearing.
Thanks for looking. _________________ 1958 coupe |

great story... you have something you can enjoy as your brother did, doesn't get any better than that!!!!
great work and inspirational if in fact I find I have to do mine once I start digging around at them down the road...
funny how many times we hear it's a dry california car, thing is if it's a so cal coastal car it will more than likely have rust... sure there's no snow or salt roads to deal with but the salt ocean breeze has rusted many bikes and anything metal left outside at my late grandma's house whom lived 1 mile from Santa Monica pier.... Beach cruisers with patina galore, pitted chrome like mad.... _________________ BUS WANTED: 13 window BUS any year considered.. |

Great story; and it's good to to see someone mixing in some hard graft themselves with professional help where it counts. Realistically I think this is the way to do it if you can can, it gives you the investment in being part of the journey without losing anything from including the pro's with the skills to help you obtain the end result.
Looking forward to seeing it come together. _________________ ::

Agreed.
I once read, probably on here, something like.
"The satisfaction gained from a project is directly proportional to the amount of effort you personally put in."
I subscribe to this.
But paint refinishing is one of those things that is really hard to do well at home without all the correct gear and space. For me anyway. _________________ 1958 coupe |

Amen to that. There is another advantage to being involved even where the pro's are employed. The pro's don't post their work on the Samba so that we can learn from them, but hands-on Sambanista like kgj do, and we all benefit. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Daily update.
Dropped in to see Mark the paint shop guy this morning. He finished painting the body last night. Seems nice and shiny. Not yet polished.
Working on the other panels today and tomorrow.
Thanks for looking. _________________ 1958 coupe |

Daily update.
Everything painted now.
Just started to wet flat and machine polish when I popped in this morning. Mark, the painter had already refitted the bonnet and boot ( hood and trunk).

Not a daily update as I was away for work all day yesterday and the rush through the paint shop is mostly over.
Minor disaster for the painter, while polishing he burnt through this corner of the engine lid so will need to repainted it.
I took away the doors 2 days ago and glued on new seals, refitted the latches...
...and today fitted them back on the car for hopefully the last time for a while.

Collected it from the paintshop today.
Drove it home like this. Only 2 miles.
It's a milestone passed for sure but once back in the garage I suddenly realised how much more work is needed to get it back on the road.
More annoyingly it has developed a misfire in the 3 weeks away which is another job beyond the refit. Oh joy.
Thanks for looking. _________________ 1958 coupe |

Your car is beautiful. Our honourable moderator will be pleased with the colour you chose. I have to concede that black can be made to look very classy, and your car is evidence of that.
Take your time while you're refitting the glass and chrome and everything else. If you hurry, like I did in my impatienece to get the car of the road, you may end up havng to do some things twice or even three times. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
