Hello all, got home from work (8;30) before i went to the gym, i figured i'd tune my carb. I just did the timing. Well it was not lit well, and my right middle finger got it's tip ripped off!! I had to keep my cool cause the wife n kids couldn't deal with it. They couldn't save it because of no veins. Was in the hospital from 9 last night till 3 this afternoon. Strting to feel the pain now, please learn from my stupidness. I'd post pic's but am unsure if some prople don't want to see them. please excuse the typing, doing it all left handed. Well at least it was not my trigger finger, and now i christened the buggy with my blood…….. |

Well, he had the courage to post his experience as a reminder to the rest of us...sometimes we get careless and it takes this kind of thing to remind us.
Sorry to hear about your injury. Yes, your buggy has extracted its "pound of flesh" from you! _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

So... you didn't really lose a finger. You took the tip off. Welcome to the world of paying attention when things are moving. Sorry to hear about the finger.... did mine last year with a plunge router that hit a knot in the wood and jumped. |

Like we say in Québec: Ayoye! Tabarnak!! (ouch, untranslatable curse word)
That is brutal, I feel your pain Bro.
Get well soon and kudos for reporting here and reminding us airheads to pay attention to what we are doing. I know I'm very often lost in my thoughts when I wrench. And I play guitar for a living so an injury like that would be catastrophic. Well, That never stopped Django Reinhard of becomming the most infuential Gypsy guitarist in history, or Tommy Iomi of single handedly inventing Heavy Metal. |

WOW, a vacuum?
Yeah, my mind was thinking about my 23 year old daughter on a date in another county, My son telling me he wanted to go to the pan handle for a week vacation with his friend, my youngest 14 meeting her first boyfriend the night before, My dad who hurt his back-(alone now since mom passed away in november after 50 years of marriage) and my wife who just got over breast cancer. So my mind was not focused. I figure at least my foolishness may help keeping someone else from endangering themselves>>>.Again sorry for the left hand only typing. |

Hey! don't worry for the left handed thing one second: the fact you're typing at all is all to your credit.
Sorry to hear about your mom's passing and your wife's ordeal.
That's how it is when you are the head of a family: the sources of worry/concerns/care are nearly endless. But then you have people who care/worry for you too
Well I hope It's all gonna heal ok and maybe you can have a little time off out of the whole thing. |

Ouch.... yeah, that's slightly worse than mine. I didn't lose the entire tip from the joint out. What the hell? Caught on the alternator belt and pulley? |

ouch what did you get it caught on? you should have someone make a silicone mold of it and then cast a bunch of them and use them for the knobs in the buggy. also I think its time to get one of these

Wow and thank you for sharing, that is an expensive lesson.
I am going to re-install my belt cover tonight. I have not installed it since I re-did my buggy.
Prayers for a quick recovery and again thank you for stepping up and sharing a lesson. _________________ If I knew what I was doing; I wouldn't be building a buggy! |
