Say I want to create a link to the 9th post of a thread. Not just to that thread or a particular page of that thread, but to that specific post. Is there a way to do that?

Answering my own question, at least partly.
After the thread link, you have to add "&start=" and then the post # within that thread. Like this...
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=271515&start=7
So then the next question is... how do you get that post # (without having to count or do some basic algebra)?

Look at the top of the post and you'll see this line:

Click on that little page looking symbol and it goes straight to that post. Copy and paste the link and there is no counting involved. The image can be either green (new post) or silver (you've already read the post)

It's even easier if you're using Firefox: just right-click on the little page icon and select "copy link location" from the menu.
