My first build...40 HP big bore. Trying to assemble the crankshaft. Here's my problem: I cannot for the life of me get the rods and caps aligned so that the side clearance is equal. In other words, there is more of a gap on one side or the other...rod or cap. I am going by the book...rods and caps are matched, tangs are up, etc. I also snugged the bolts and tapped the cap with a hammer to align before torqueing but not having any success. Any suggestions? I'm frustrated!

Slide a snug feeler gauge on both sides of the cap before you tighten it.

And hit it with a hammer (brass or lead of course)
