For a Beetle? 95% more often than not, most people run 135 or 145s.

I run 135's on my 4.5 fuchs' on my Karmann Ghia with dropped spindles so that the tires don't rub in corners, but the tires look very skinny.

On the left is a 4.5" Porsche steelie with Continental 165/45/15. Perfect fit with more of a contact patch than a 135 or 145.

I don't like the low profile look myself. It's about a 30 mm difference in contact. It's a 4.5 inch wheel, if you want 30mm more buy a 5.5, thats what those tires are designed for. The 135 is designed for a 5 inch wide wheel. I ran 155's last go round. I'm not flying around corners anyway.

Not true. The ideal wheel for a 135 is probably 3 or 3½". Remember, VW put a 155 on a 4" wheel and a 165 on a 4½" wheel.

FWIW, I have 155s on my 4½" Fuchs, but I only carry one as a spare. The 155 is exactly the same OD as my rear tire so my LSD won't be fighting itself if I need to use the spare. Then, the 155s are good in the snow.

I run 175-55-15 Contis. It gives me a much larger contact patch out front than the old 135s. I do however have a 6" beam.

Good to know, when I searched it came back as 5 inch, throw some 125's on. Who has a 3 inch wheel, wagon? Kidding, seriously that's a tiny rim.

I once saw where a guy took an original 4½" Fuchs and had it chopped to 3½" for his spare!
