Working on my two rear fenders ((one at a time)
Sprayed them with epoxy primer inside and out. Then scuffed the surface with a red scotch Brite pad.
Mixed and applied some rage extreme (bondo) and sanded smooth. Things are feeling pretty good but I have sanded through to the metal in places:(
Doesn't this defeat the purpose of using the epoxy primer in the first place?
Can I respray the whole fender with etching primer in a spray can or it it not a good idea to mix Epoxy primer and etching primer?
I'm confused:( |

You can spray rattle can etch on them if you use something decent like SEM. But really all you need to hit is the bare area. Dont do the whole fender.
A better solution would be (make sure you can do it with your product) would be reduce the epoxy primer and use it as a sealer before painting. But you have to spray it right before you paint. |

If you have epoxy primer left over and you're just trying to avoid the hassle of running and cleaning your regular paint gun, for such a small area.. you could mix some up in a small Preval sprayer, may have to reduce it a little. They're like $12 at your paint supply store. I'd make sure all your filler is nice and level first though, and hit the whole area. Heck with a small enough area you might get a way with brushing it on.

So if I have 3 more fenders, hood, decklid, etc. to do I don't want these bare metal spots to rust up on me in the meantime.
So, how do I "preserve" this fender for the next month or so until we are ready to spray it? I know I'm not the only person that is in this predicament.
I don't have a sprayer handy:(
Doug, I guess I would need an air compressor to use the sprayer huh? Haha |

No, google Preval sprayers.. they are little re-usable aerosol sprayers. They come with a glass canister that you fill with your paint and it screws onto an (included) aerosol propellent canister. They are actually very convenient. No compressor needed.
