So this is my Trekker ,
1971 VW 181 Ex Germany army still on reduction gearboxes
I can't take the credit for the resto as that was the PO (Shielsy) that completed that.
This is what it was like when the PO bought it

It needed a little work

This was how I bought it

I however am responsible for the way it is now
The story goes ,my missus bought me this 3 years ago for my 40th - and we flew over to Derry Norn' Ireland from Glasgow . Where Owen(Shielsy) picked us up at the airport
This was on the Friday and Shielsy's mate delivered the car to my house in Glasgow on the Sunday for the grand total of 150 notes
Due to rebuilding my bus , moving house and having babies it got put on the back burner .
But this year it was green for go.
This was what it was like in Feb only when I had just stuck the Murdered Brm's on it in prep for it going to DTH's for the a big wallop with the lowering stick.

And as it stands now

ts running a 4inch narrowed jawbreaker beam with air shocks ,through rods , beetle arms and dropped spindles , its had a Machine7 Refurb Solex , which basically ran straight out the box - well worth the cash.
I've got a brand new Thing shop hood and frame to go on complete with thing shop side curtains , I bought a NOS upper windscreen surround and a thing shop lower windscreen frame.
It's still running reduction boxes and has been lower 2 splines at the rear but Ive got a AO 1600 swing axle Ghia box to go in and I will be looking at air ride for the rear too.
Its due for its MOT tomoz so fingers crossed then it will going for paint (Nato Green) as the yellow just ain't my thing (sorry Owen )
Had to mod inner wings for airride , raise the tank and dimple the framehead to clear tierods

It passed its MOT today and is hopefully going for paint this weekend

I agree, it would have been so much nicer if he kept it the original green. I remember the same guy (Shielsy) had a nice Porsche 912 that he shipped over from CA and he painted it the same color. The yellow paint must have been on sale Very Happy

Looking good!! That skid plate will come in handy at car park entrances, and the occasional roadkill!! Laughing

Well finally out of the paintshop - painter had a slight hiccup with the paint
ie painted it the totally wrong colour . He's was quick to sort it though so all good.
New NOS upper windscreen surround fitted and new Thing shop lower screen frame too.
The thing shop top on frame and matching side curtains fit like a glove so really happy with them ( my wallet isn't as happy though)

The quality and fit of the thing shop top and windows is awesome even if the import duty I had to pay cost more than the paint job Smile
