1K is not catalyzed while 2K is.
Think of how tough your car paint is versus plain spray paint. You are relying on un non-catalyzed base for your catalyzed topcoat. Not always the best combo. |

What would be the application for a 1k primer then? |

Its good practice to try to keep all the reducers/hardeners etc interchangeable. That way you will be less likely to ever have a problem. Sometimes the 1k will react with 2k on top. Also without being catylized, there can be issues down the road if you ever had to do a repair. Im not saying that your going to have trouble, but if you ever do another one, just use 2k (2k everything). Have a look at your tech sheet and be sure to give that 1k primer proper dry times. If you dont have them, most can be found online. |

Yeah maybe. Ive used a 1k etch on small bare spots just before painting before I guess. But I dont even like using 1k then. |

My previous post was in response to the 1k paint post. Too funny. I'm assuming the paint store gave it to me because I told them I just had a few small spots to prime and this would be easiest route rather than 2 part. I may try and paint the fenders, etc tomorrow. Nice temps and low humidity in forecast. Toying with the idea of putting 2 pop up canopies together and wrapping with plastic for a make shift spray booth. |

We opened up the doors on both ends of the shop to paint my car. Carports & lawns will work. We did have the slab washed down clean. BC/CC all in one day w/no sanding. 1 hour between coats. Clear will hide any orange peel in the base if you do not put it on too thick! 2-3 coats of each. Good Luck! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Thanks Mike. Any guesstimation on how much paint and clear the 4 fenders, hood, and engine cover will use. I believe its 4:1 on both. Don't have my spec sheets with me. |

My plan was to do the removables first to get my head right so to speak, then do the body with confidence. Figured it'd be easy to re do a fender if it didn't come out right rather than trying to fix a screw up on the body. Plus I did not want to feel rushed trying to get the whole thing done in one day. |

All I'm gonna say is WOW! It couldn't have gone any better. And I couldn't have expected better results. I wish I could buy every single one of you guys a beer or 6 for helping me out with this. I will be posting pics a little later. I'm too busy doing cartwheels right now. Thank you fellas.

Hey...glad to hear that! Excited to see the results. Once you have the secrets figured out its not that hard.
Of course I mean decent results. There are lots of gifted craftsman in the field that have more than just secrets. |

I ended up with one small run on one of the rear fenders. Easily sanded and buffed out if I get the notion to. A few tiny bugs as well but nothing a little polish won't fix. Again, if I get the motivation. Sooooo pleased with the results. I can't thank you guys enough for all the help. I'm hoping to shoot the body tomorrow. More pics of that of course. |

Much better! Congrats!
Another suggestion....ask for the same helpful hints when you are ready to sand and buff. Those tasks carry secrets as well. You don't want to take any steps back. |

Yeah. No doubt. Honestly though, I'm not even thinking about doing anything to it. It came out way to good for my skill set. Haha. I could have done a better job on the little bit of body work I did on a couple of the pieces and I was surprised that the original runs on the hood, which I thought I sanded down flat, showed through just a hair. I'm sure with the right cut, buff, polish, it could be made 100%. But again, I'm totally psyched just the way it is right now. |
