Bus Boys are in Redding. You may also want to search the Vanagon Rescue Squad (they even have an app): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=243369&highlight=redding

Pretty sure I read recently that Burley relocated to Santa Barbara. Their # is also area code 805 now.

we left a message with Jim at subagon, the problem is getting a new seal in a reasonable amount of time.

It would certainly help to know which seal you need and even which transmission you have, manual, automatic? No one can point you in the right direction if you don't tell them where you need to go. Are you even sure it is a tranny seal? What are your symptoms?

Depending on which seal you need, I may have what you need just a 3 hr drive away (aka... "Overnight Express"). Of course VC or GW can easily overnight anything you need as well. Good luck and get the hell out of there ASAP!!! Have you seen the weather forecast for this week Shocked Shocked Shocked .

Thanks for the help and replies. James, Burley, and especially Jim at Subagon. Jim gave us access to an unused bay at his shop, Jim gave us a seal, jack and floor stands. We pulled the auto trans out of my friends westy, got the new seal in but noticed the bushing inside the torque converter was completely gone. Jim had a spare torque converter we got that all installed and buttoned back up. But the damage was already done and the trans wouldn't hold the ATF. The Input shaft must have gotten damaged and the seal couldn't keep the fluid from leaking out. The pan and filter looked like sluice box filled with gold flakes!

Took a rental car home. All is well.
Thanks again.

Paul

Just rent a U-haul and a car trailer and tow her home. Way less bother than having to deal with a car that is broken down hundreds of miles away.
