So the kit is on order and I thought that I would start a thread to document its progress.
The plan is to use a ej20t motor, stinger ecu, and Subarugears trans.
I am currently doing all the mods to the pan. Here are some pics.
This only rust bucket is my starting point. 69 irs pan
At the sand blaster
Found out I had some issues after blasting. The frame head was pretty bad and since it was ball joint anyways, I decided to do away with it and build a custom front set up.
The pans were also questionable, so I figured with all the work and money I plan on putting into this build, it's better to start new.
Some mods by the previous owner that need repair.
Picked up this bad boy from Eastwood and man is it a nice little tool to have for pan installs.
Got some new pans from wolfsburge west and man they fit really nice. Very very minor trimming if any at all. Here is a pic that shows a preview of the punch tool at work.
Still have to clean up the old spot weld areas before I can begging to spot weld in the new pans.
Also received a nice little delivery.
Todd tells me that this is the first tranny to receive the " sight glass." Also the first with the one piece forged front nose cone.

How much of a lift are you planning to put on the pan?

No plans for a pan lift currently. The ds body is already 3" taller. If I feel that I still need a lift once I receive the body then I will cross that road at that point. |

If you run the SubaruGear Transmission on a Stock Type 1 pan with a DualSport Body and no lift kit you will need to cut it in the same places that you cut for a Manxter Body in order to clear.
Depending on the rear seat configuration this may or may not be an issue for you.
Meyers Manx sell a rear cover to allow for the Subaru Transmission.
If you wish to limit the amount of clearancing required at the rear of the tunnel you should shorten the shifter as with the new cast nose cone you can make it much shorter than stock and get the coupler back into the tunnel well clear on the VIN #.
I would also grind the front upper casting support tab off and clean it down to the rib, this will help you getting it clear / reduce cutting.
The rest should be fine, if you add a 2" lift kit it will all go very close to clearing without cutting, a 3" clears but 2" is touch and go. |

Winnie has included the hump in my purchase. Still waiting on a price for the color matched component though. |

I used the Wolfsburg' pans on mine also sure glad I did. I think the metal is twice as thick as the others.
The reason I asked about the lift is when I was trying to figure how to stiffen the pan for my Manxter with more support, I realized that a small lift 2" would strengthen the pan but also give more leg and inside room. Sure glad I went the extra mile..
Looking forward to your build.
David

I'm going to look into that once I take delivery of the body. I am going to build an exoskeleton which will help to stiffen the body too. It'll be tied into the pan halves via a metal track which you can see on the floor in 3rd and 5th picture posted. I got these for free from zancat who had a build over on the shop talk. It was a great score for me and he was going to take them to the scrap yard that weekend had I not randomly messaged him. |

What color is ole #32 going to be?
And did you check out the tubing bending behind the trans? Getting new tools is all part of the fun. _________________ dbsmith

I wanted to do something a little different, a little tougher looking if you will. The color name is granite. It's like a charcoal grey. I had some tools on hand but figured that it is time to upgrade some of the tools for this project. Tools are ready to go, still waiting on the body though 😒 |

Have also been working on some access panels. I figure since I am going with a FI engine and hydraulic clutch that I would creat access to be able attach the lines to the wall of the tunnel.
No holes yet.
I figured I will do something cool with the panel covers like having a Subaru emblem made or the number 32. I will probably cheep out with the emergency brake area as it will be cover by the seat anyway. |

It really was a pleasure meeting Bruce and Winnie today. My family would always go in family vacations to a place where my grandpa and his friends had retired too. I used to love sitting around and listening to them tell stories. Speaking with Bruce today reminded me a lot of this.
If you ever get the chance to go pick up your kit in person, I highly recommend it. Good conversation with good people. |

Congrats on your new build. I saw the body a few weeks ago when I was there before Big Bear.
It is a different color then I use to seeing (mines orange).
Have fun with the build.
The Dual Sport is a lot of fun to drive. They are very comfortable. _________________ Joseph
