Doesn't look half bad (on the outside)

And yes, best get used to learning how to be the better man with ignoring road rage.

Just because you think it's funny is no reason to be a dick to everybody else. I always make an effort to pull over and let other vehicles pass...and in many places it is the law.

It is sort of funny how slow vw's are. At least, looking back on it now as I learned to drive on a non-turbo diesel vanagon... Embarrassed as hell at the time...

(But come on, I am just F'in with ya. I drive the same as you... Just couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap a shot in a one lane construction zone. Pictures are great point-makers and do wonders for sarcasm...)

Keepin it in the right lane forever, yo!

Nice starter bus there! My '69 was in far worse shape than that, and it now is my daily driver from april to november! You will be enjoying smiles by the miles in no time flat!

p.s., no parking brake here Shocked , I just bring a pice of 2x4 and leave it in the proper gear.

Oh don't be telling me that. The parking brake is literally the very first thing I am tackling. That way I can feel a little bit more confident while working on it. It is currently in my driveway which has a rather steep slope to it.

I pulled these out. They were stored in the previous owners backyard for a long time. I have no idea what they are. My best guess from the research I did was the silver ones are 15 inch and likely from a beetle of that era and the really really rusty ones are possibly original to the bus. However, the wheel on the bottom left seems to be kind of odd. I don't know if it has a weird offset or what but it also looks like it doesn't have those 4 air vents.

Does anyone happen to know what these are from or what I should use? I know the wire wheels that are currently on the bus will be gone soon.

Ohh. The car is numbers matching with the engine. Now how cool is that. I don't think I have ever seen a Volkswagen with a numbers matching engine. So many were needing rebuilds at 50k miles that they just swapped them out and swapped in a new one.

progress today was cleaning out the interior to some degree and removing the big 46mm nut that holds the rear drum on. Progress came to a halt because I can not get the rear drum off and the mosquitos came out. So did my good friends dad with his 73 Super Beetle to see how everything is going.

I have perpetually closed curtains in the back window.

I will be touring America in September and October in my Westy, mostly back roads. I will still have people tail doggin' me all the way.

Seeing the USA at 60 mph, what a trip, eh?

While you have the interior out, I highly recommend a sound dampening material. I'm really glad I put it in my Bus.

I would also check the wiring......do it while you have everything out and easy to check/remove/replace!

Looks like you have a good bus to start with. Rock on!!!

The left are probably mangles, 15" in diameter. The ones on the right are stock 68-70 bus wheels. I'd use those on some 195/75-14 BFG AT tires.

A buddy designed it and then I just ordered it on a sticker site. However it did have the VW above the "i" but I was contacted to change it or else!

Wow, I could eat off of your engine bay. Which reminds me, I need to replace the fuel lines and re route the fuel filter under the bus.

You mentioned the problems you were having with the sliding door popping out correctly? Well, good thing you have that owner's manual, because it shows exactly where to lube to keep the rear hinge working well. You will need to aggressively spray penetrant on it and work it many times till it moves freely, then put on oil as shown in the owner's manual. This is something rarely done till the U-link starts to freeze up.
Hope this helps.
Al
