... see number 44. when the canvas top is stretched over it, what holds the canvas on to this piece?
When the roof is slid back, the canvas can separate off this metal... I know something must hold the canvas on. Like a clip, screw or pop rivet AND whichever little part... how is it applied?
Thanks so much

IIRC the original was installed using a split rivet and that was what the replacement covers use to come with. I used pop rivets to hold mine on (1960) and some people just use a glue like contact cement _________________ Rick

Do you apply the rivet from the top, through the canvas cover or from the bottom, through the canvas? I guess glue and pop rivets would do. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

from the inside where the material folds over. I have a canvas top -been on there since 1997
once riveted, I used tape along the whole length along the topside to further cover the rivets so they don't show thru. I have to think real hard as it's been so long I did it. I don't know how the rivets would work on a vinyl cover tho? _________________ Rick

It works the same way . . . the rivets had a special head design to sit flush in the countersunk holes.
The rivets on mine had push-nuts just like these . . . http://www.mcmaster.com/#90528a127/=xvfsis
You will have better access to the ends of the rivets if you are able to first remove those two special screws (#49 in the illustration) that attach the bow to the rest of the mechanism.
There is also a sponge-rubber strip that is adhered to the bottom of the bow before the cover is attached to the bow. _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |
