These days any little bump costs $1,000. My Caravan's front bumper skin got torn off. $1,000. My daughter's Toyota right front headlight and hood corner got bumped. $1,000. My other daughter's Toyota front hood edge got creased. Almost $1,000. I think from the looks of the damage to your Porsche $1,200 is a pretty honorable quote from the garage. Being it's a Porsche I imagine they could have hit you for a lot more.

No no....its going to cost me $1000 (my $500 deductible and then rental car for 3 weeks).

Plus there are two gouges in the front tire so insurance will pay for one and I will pay for the other three (they were close to being replaced) so its actually going to be more than $1000 out of my pocket.

The appraiser has pegged the damage at $5400.00 as of right now. Hidden damage will likely increase that.

I paid $1000 for my first car (VW Bug). Sheesh, outrageous but true.

So as I thought I was pretty much over the fact that someone whacked my car...and I was gonna be out $1000+.....but apparently not.

I was sitting at a local pub out by UMass eating a late dinner with my son after a basketball game when the manager comes walking up to our table. He says "Did you own a blue Beemer?" I replied..."Yes. Why?" with a look of angst. "OH..you left your lights on".

Apparently I grimaced because my son was laughing his ass off when I got back to the table. He said "I thought you were going to keel over when he asked you if you owned a beemer".

The Cayenne is heading to the shop tomorrow for its 3 week spa visit.

that's a hell of a way to preface a conversation. I would take that as "your blue bmw is no longer with us"

don't kill the battery...new battery=battery registration so the car knows how much to charge

Yeah...its a 2004 (19k miles when I bought it 2 months ago) 645 and they are notorious for being very sensitive to voltage drop. I seemed to have escaped that so far.

On another note. We got our "luxurious" rental for the week. This is for our small family. I am 6'2" and my son is 6'5". This will be our family car for the next 3 weeks..

For a Porsche that's about right. I had a guy back into my Roadster (not a hit and run fortunately) and did some minor damage to the right front fender and it was $5000 or so when the dust settled. Stuff is expensive these days I guess.

This is the result of our culture, we are raising kids with no moral or ethical values. I feel your pain as we had incidents happen on busy places where no one saw anything. People have the balls to record law enforcement while they are at work (Because it is our right Confused ) but no one has the balls to record the criminals while they are committing the crime.

I refuse to be pissed off by this so I am looking for anything positive.

I did a quick calculation....My wife used about $120 per week in gas with the Cayenne. I figure about maybe $40 with the little clown car.

So instead of paying $140 a week for the clown car I am actually only paying $60!

Well the estimate is up to $6700 (from the initial $5400) and we are on track to having it back about a week before we head out on vacation so that's good news.

The unidentified driver also gouged the front tire so I had a new one on the estimate. I was able to shop around and buy 4 new tires for about $200 more. Basically I am getting 4 tires for the price of 2.

Positive thinking!

Now you can take those 4 old tires and sling them on the corners, like a tugboat, for future encounters. Hopefully not, though Laughing

Great idea!

I was thinking of just trying to restrict the wife's shopping but that might be easier.

A friend of ours just bought a BMW 640 sedan (mostly paid for by his company). The word he uses to describe its appearance is "predatory". And I agree.

To each their own... I for one wont drink any of the modern Euro Kool-Aid.. Laughing

You can wrap any turd in a slick bow-tie shell.. . Laughing .
Still a turd.. and still stinks.

IMO (its my opinion) BMW is no different than modern Audi, Mercedes, and many more.

No doubt.. some nice body lines .... but... lack in other expensive areas.
Pretty decent when new.... but as they age they dont mechanically age gracefully
