http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/Wideband-AirFuel-Gauges.aspx?sitelink=LeftNav

this thing sandwiches between he oil filter and block to give two ports for pressure and temp. The only down side I see is it gives and additional seem to fail.

What is better to watch oil temp or coolant temp ?

anyone running a fuel Air ration gauge ? Like this

would it offer any warning or information as to what is failing ?

I've been using one of the sandwich adapters for awhile. It works. You just have to be careful to seal it to the block adequately (enough torque and clean surfaces). I have a VDO pressure gauge and a temp sensor, though I haven't gotten around to wiring the temp sensor yet. Of the two, pressure is likely the more important.

Given a choice, I'd prefer to know the coolant temperature. It reacts fairly quickly and since cooling system is external to the engine, more places for failure that if not caught quickly can lead to catastrophic failures.

Oil temp is slower to respond not much you can do about high oil temp other than backing your foot out of it. If you were adding say an external oil cooler it would be nice to measure before and after temps.

^^ Misread the question. I agree with coolant temp is more important than oil temp. I'd monitor oil pressure and coolant temp before oil temp.

Then have a cleaver little item that you basically splice into one of the hoses so you have a port for the sensor. really easy stuff. i just need to figure out where I would mount the gauges.

Oil temperature (Oil pressure is best), you already have a water temperature gage and if it doesn't work then you should fix that first.

I have used a bunch of 42 design stuff on my Audi. They do top notch work.
