|
|
I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for via search so I'll try here.
I am still running my OEM power steering metal lines. The clamps in the engine compartment area that attached them to the body have been damaged over time and I'm looking for replacement options to re attach them.
What are people using as replacements ? |

Also interested in replacements, currently have one rubber piece still connected holding things on and then zip ties. |

On my 86 the PS Pipe clips were horribly rusted.
IF I were to replace them I would simply use strips of heavy gauge sheet metal (maybe 5/8" wide) screwed to the body in the center and wrap each leg around a pipe.
Paint well to ward off corrosion.
But......
Knowing my clips were rusty like I think yours are...... And knowing now how decomposed the PS pipes were, especially where they touched the mounting clips........
I so would purchase replacement hoses before the metal pipes fail on you.
I Installed the BusDepot hoses but there are many options available to you including making your own.
My metal pipes literally broke apart as I undid connections and removed them.
Hoses mounted on the PS rack...... You can see the old rusty mounting clip above the hoses......
Hoses passing through factory frame openings......
Hoses passing fuel pump and under rear support towards engine......

I echo Dave's first suggestion. Assuming that the lines, like mine, are in good shape and do not need to be replaced, only the clamp has been damaged, and the rubber isolator is still intact, make your own.
They couldn't be easier to make. Just a strip of steel with a hole drilled into it and bent to match a good one.
You could use standard tube clamps (can be had at Lowe's or Summit) if you like. I think it might push the lines further apart than stock, though. I would recommend this if the rubber isolator is gone or unusable.
(edited for number of needed holes, based on Dave's supplied photo)

OK, I'll check into some options to DIY them.
Good pic to see what they did look like
I'm just not at the point where the lines need to be replaced. They will fail (as all things to eventually, even new hose ones) but my focus lies in my engine install.
Hate to replace lines prematurely because of a couple bad clamps.
Cheers. |
