More advice needed, sorry.
I'm over in the UK, running a rail with a warrior linkpin front beam with coilovers.
Great bit of kit but it's let down by the spindles, currently running modified spindles that have original k&l rears mated to ballpoint disc fronts. Work but are pretty agricultural.
I'd like to convert to combo spindles, possibly raised.
Problem is I'll need to import the kit so need to figure out exactly what I need to convert the beam. Not sure which hubs, brakes, bearings, tie rods fit what, and obviously can't return stuff or pop back for a chat or a different bearing.
Cost is an issue, especially with import duty so my preference would be to keep my standard bug front discs and calipers as I'm running 4x130 wheels.
Any advice much appreciated |

I ran into a problem trying to fit combo spindles on a car I had, they are meant for extreme abuse & are larger in diameter, I was not able to find inner bearings with a large enough id to fit the spindle & an od small enough to fit vw drums/discs. Ultimately the supplier sent a call tag & swapped out for an uprated stock style spindle. If you get a set, make sure you tell the sales person what you are trying to accomplish & purchase all the components from them. DO NOT INSTALL the spindles until you can verify the brakes will work, they will not take them back once installed _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Thanks for the advice, just the sort of pitfall I'm trying to avoid.
What did you end up using instead?
Is there anyone that builds coilover trailing arms for ballpoint? |

They traded a set of beefier stock style spindles, as far as coil over balljoint arms go, I don't know of anyone making any, the balljoints limit the amount of travel to stock travel so no real advantage in increased travel shock. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I am using Tweeds AS-B 3" Lifted combo spindles with AirKewld link pin disc brakes. 1-1/4" Inner I.D and 1" Outer ID bearings: You can get these hubs in heim or international rod ends.
Timken Bearing Part numbers
Inner bearing #15123
Inner race #15244
Outer bearing # 07100
Outer race #07204
You could buy these bearings first (or equal) to verify that your drum/discs hubs will fit. |
