I dropped of the bus this morning at Tom's place and now I am hitchhiking south.
So far I got one ride about 30 miles to White River Junction. Now I am waiting for the next ride. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Got few more rides and now I am in Manchester, CT
but the on ramp kinda sucks. Last ride was with a college kid who I never picked up anyone and he dropped me of here. But no worries. I will find my way out of here. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Got stuck in Manchester. Had a beer at the local pub. There is one homeless shelter in town, but it was closed. Taking last bus to Hartford to see if I get any luck over there. Tomorrow I will take a train to NYC I guess because hitchhiking sucks in densely populated areas. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Hitching on the East Coast has sucked for 30 years. I ended up stuck in NJ back in the 80's. Cops hassled me every 2 hours, no ride for 2 days. I was so desperate I made a sign that said "Anywhere but here", got a ride in 10 minutes! The train is a better option in that part of the world. Safe travels! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

So I took the last bus to Hartford. From there I hopped on a Greyhound to NYC leaving shortly after midnight.
I slept about 90 minutes in the bus and then couple of hours at Port Authority in New York. Now I am back on my feet sightseeing NYC.
Have a great day! _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Peter! What happened to the bus? Did you find a spot to park it?

Yes. At Tom's field in Vermont. I will try to get back before the snow and drive it south then.
I am only going to Europe for 2 months, so I don't want to deal with it. My grandpa is in hospital and I have to take care of many personal things, so I decided it might best if it stays in the US for now.
Shipping would cost me at least $2000 and I much rather spend that on gas when I come back.
Read some of the previous post for more detailed info for this decision. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Flight to Madrid Monday night is wide open. Expect a row of coach seats to yourself to sleep on. Good luck and safe travels. |

In Madrid.
This was by far the easiest immigration interview ever in history of the world that involves human interaction.
I come to the immigration counter:
Lady: Hola
Me: Hola (handing over passport open on the ID page)
Lady: (looks at the passport, like 2 sec)
Lady: Muy bien (hands passport over)
Me: Gracias
I go. No scanning, no questions, no forms, nothing. After all the immigration procedures I have been thru, I am like Alice in the wonderland. The whole thing involved 5 words in total _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Peter, correct me if I am wrong, but if you have a Czech passport within UE you are in Schengen area...you dont even need to show it.

Last time I flew into Pisa Italy I went to open my US passport and I got waved in w/o even a stamp. The small Italian Airports could care less about Shenngin accords (can't even say it since it does not end in a vowel!). Hey, keep us updated on VW sightings, I just got back from a 6 mo. stay and there are still a few here and there. Enjoy and be prepared for the shocking changes that have occurred through out Europe.... _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Hey Peter. Glad to hear you're doing well, but sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Take care. See you when you get back down this way someday. Best wishes to you and your family. _________________ Conrad @ Air Coolers VW Gang http://aircoolers.org

Spotted Petr today taking a pic of a bus in the Fort Worth stockyards.
For those keeping score he departed for Santiago Chile tonight.
