|
|
Good morning guys and gals!
I was turned onto the Butty's Bits throttle pedal linkage conversions through the mention in another topic. Though briefly spoken of in a few threads, no one has posted a review or further information/photos other than what is on ButtysBits.com
I have the same issue many of you do, my accelerator pedal linkage is very sloppy and a quality repair kit can be found as high as $50, which will restore your pedal only to it's former original sloppy glory. With my bus being a RHD, I'm subject to more play than you LHD drivers, it's not very pleasant so I bought one of the conversion kits immediately after discovering them.
After the conversion rate, my total shipped came out to around $130 which taking into consideration this kit fixes what many refer to as a 50 year design flaw, I'd say is a reasonable price.
Without further ado...
First impressions, a simple QUALITY made product with few parts - very little could go wrong but just in case, I had a couple of replacement heim joints tossed in the shipment. Shipping was very fast from the UK to the US, I paid on the 16th and it was at my door on the 22nd.
I will be installing it in the upcoming weeks and updating with photos and likely a video but until then... here is the mess I'm working with;

I agree, the stock gas pedal setup could have really used a little more attention from the engineers. I replaced every part up front that I could get from Wolfsburg West when I repaired mine and that made a big difference - you may find that the hinge point for the pedal needs the most work. The two spot welds holding it to the floor are 99/100 rusted or too weak to hold the pedal straight. _________________ Robert in Memphis

I was thinking about doing that. Looks worth it, just that price tag stopping me. _________________ Wash your hands

I'll be waiting to see how it looks/works after the install. My gas pedal is fine aside from squeaking and being a tad stiff.
I don't mind spending the cash if it lasts for 20+ years. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

FINALLY INSTALLED!
If I had know the installation was that painless, I would've done it the second it came in the mail.
The easiest and most mechanically rewarding upgrade I've ever done. With removal, clean up and installation included - 25 mins. Installation was 10.
F*ck yes Butty's Bits.

By the bend in your gas pedal it looks like someone had a heavy foot. With the new pedal linkage. You may need to readjust the accelerator cable at full throttle. Make sure at full throttle there is a slight bit of slack in the cable. If not the tension on the cable will prematurely wear out the carburetor bushings.
Good Luck

Glad to hear you're happy with it. Although I didn't find this thread till today, I received mine a couple of weeks ago. I haven't installed it yet. I think it will be the last time the linkage will need to be replaced. |

So long as you lube it beyond no end, it'll last for forever
I can't wait to use mine with my fancy new carb linkage. _________________ Wash your hands

I installed mine today. Took me about 25 minutes. Very easy install. The results are very impressive.
