Explain a little bit more of what you have and what you are wanting to do with your vehicle. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Well i want to make it my daily driver/ Weekend toy. Its got a bad leak now. its a 1977 VW bug with a 1600 cc motor in it. Fuel injected with a new wiring harness. I was thinking of getting rid of the heat since it will not be driven in the winter time.
Any suggestions would help. |

Keep the heat. There will be plenty of times in Spring/Summer/Fall when you will be happy you have the heat.
Get a quality stock muffler. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

As long as it fits your model year, and your model year is stock. Meaning the EGR system is in place (if applicable)
That EGR is probably the difference for your car.
we have no way of knowing if your car is modified or not
Using the newer? style exhaust limits available choices, but the heater sections remain in place. |

You can but keep the stock heater boxes or go performance heater boxes with a nice stainless steel muffler. Search "Vintage Speed". They have some really nice mufflers that might be what you are looking for. Can be a little pricey though. Or give Jbugs a call. Good luck _________________ Aloha'z and have a great day!

You are going to have trouble finding an aftermarket exhaust to fit the stock FI heater boxes. Honestly, just keep it stock. You live in PA, there will be days when you'll be happy that you have the heat. Put a new stock muffler on it, it'll be nice an quiet and you may even feel a little more power over the old leaky muffler.
Focus on other things I'm sure need your attention. You just got this car, don't be so quick to pull the trigger on significant modifications. Start out slow. Make it mechanically sound, clean it up as best as you can, put some new seat covers on it if the interior is all ratty, add a stereo and drive it around a bit an enjoy it. Maybe a new set of wheels and tires to personalize it a bit. Attend a few local car shows, read more here on the Samba, join a club. Gain some appreciation for what you have and then once you get a little more educated about your car, you'll be able to make good choices on what to keep and what to modify.

The heater box on the left side is where the issue is. Im thinking of removing the heater boxes and get them fixed. The heat will be no issue for me. Once it gets cold it goes in the barn for the winter. I just need to get it so i can drive it back and forth to work. |
