I'm in the process of painting a 72 VW bug. When I got the bug there was no trim on it. What is the best way to fill in the trim holes? I have counted 40 trim holes to fill in!! So far I have started sanding the Bug, Should I fill in the holes before putting on greay primer? If so, what is the best way? Is there any shop or independent auto painter that could spray it after I put on the primer. If you know of a shop or painter, that would not charge a arm and leg, please give me a referral to them. I'm retired and money is tight. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, VW Jim.

The trim on a classic beetle is the best part. Shocked
I would weld them but I go to sleep at night with a mig nozzle in my hand. Laughing A different method is to use a scratch awe that just barely fits in the hole and put a divot in the panel striking it with a hammer. That way there is a 'bowl' to hold the filler.

the last medium you want to use is bondo. draws moisture and allows rust at every hole. I use a fberglass patching putty purchased a walmart I use an awl and hammer to make small indent then fill with the fiber putty then bondo over that.

Check this thread for an alternative to welding the holes closed . . . it's better than plastic filler . . . http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=614338&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

What is your location? Its pointless to refer you to a body shop located in California if you are in New York. Confused
