Hi,

I've been rebuilding a 1302 Ls and at the stage it with the painter.

I like the new mazda soul red metallic, its a pearl.
I also like a kawasaki motorbike red colour, also a pearl.

Would there be any benefit/difference or anything else I should be thinking about. My painter doesn't seem keen to do the bike colour but to me, as someone who knows nothing about spraying, they are both pearls, both a pain to touch up and probably to spray.

One is a motorbike colour, about 6 years old I think, the other is on a new car but does that make any difference. I can't decide if its the pearl colour/spraying that is bothering him or maybe he is trying to steer me to a flat colour.

Does motorcycle colours make any difference, do they get discontinued in some way earlier or something, or something else ?

many thanks

PG

Your painter is the only person who can tell you why he is reluctant to shoot those colors.

motorcycle colours are very labour intensive to apply. They can have as many as 8 base coats of various shades and pearl effects to build up the colour, are nigh impossible to apply evenly over large surfaces and a nightmare to blow in or repair. On bikes with small panels that can be individually painted they are good, but on a car I would agree with your painter..

Its very unlikely to be even a tri-stage paint for the bike. Pick the color you like. If for some crazy reason, the bike is somethink weird, see if the paint guy will go to the bike a do a prophit on it. They scan it with a special camera and it averages out the color and will give you a very very close match to it. Then you can have it mixed into whatever you want. base/clear, single stage....whatever. But id be willing to bet my left nut the Kawi color is nothing more than a base/clear.

With a prophit, they actually take a picture of the color on a bike and then mix it to that formula the camera comes up with. If you have a paint code, call the paint store and give them the code and see if they can mix it in whatever you want it in. Base/clear is what I would use. Whatever brand you have locally.
