I may have an opportunity to pick a 71 T4 Wagon. Unfortunately, its so rusted, the body is just about rotted through. Aside from the obvious, are there any huge design differences? I'm particularly interested in its:
Dash
Seats
Door panels
Rear hatch door
Engine hatch cover
Heater
Engine and FI components
Calipers
A/C underdash evap.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

The dash has some control position, differences but I have swapped them
The seats will fit fine but there are small detail differences in build. Non that will even slow you down
Door panels are different when you see a different armrest design. The sheet netal underneath fits the bolts and hooks differently. They dont swap.....but, if the doors are straight.....get them complete ascthey swap complete and its great to have spares.
Rear hatch door will have different lights and vents but may, fit anyway.
Engine hatch cover is same
Heater same
Engine and fuel injection......the 1974 had L-jet 1800cc, totally, different everything....it was a low compression smog dog compared to the 1.7 with D-jet...but reliable. Get it if you can.
Calipers and steering knuckles and rotors are different...same to 7-72, different, august 72 and up......but.....the steering knuckles with rotors, calipers and axles and bscking plates bolt right up as a unit in minutes....any year. So get them complete.....just pull the three bolts to the strut........and the whole steering knuckle with caliper and rotor drops right off. Personally. ...if you are going that far....do two more bolts each side....control arm and radius arm.....and take the whole control arm with ball joint with you.
Ac parts should work.
If you have the time.....I would get the steering box as well. Ray |
