CB Performance Link Pin Bug Puma Beam additional narrowing

Has anyone out there in BugLand attempted to cut an additional 1" off the ends of the tubes on a 2" narrowed Puma link pin beam from CB Performance? I have one of these beams installed as purchased and it looks like a good option to make it a 4" narrowed beam without having to open it up or cut the center. I am trying to purchase a used one to get a better look at things without having to remove mine til I make a decision. I'm hoping the inner bushings and the outer bearings can be pushed in an additional inch on each side to make it happen. I read an article where someone was able to do the same thing on a Bus Beam that came from Puma and supposedly it went as planned. I have a German beam I removed from a 62 Bug and it doesn't have any excess tube sticking out past the shock towers anyway.
