Hi fellas,
New to this bug world. I bought me an 1975 Standard bug. it's a carb, not an fi. The wiring harness is cut in few places. Also, its a rat mess and i do not know where everything goes. Most of the wiring is unplugged. I couldnt pass up the price I paid for this project. I tried to look for a brand new wiring harness to buy and install it and be done with it but, no one makes anything after 74. i was wondering will I run into any trouble if I bought harness that is for pre 70's?
I dont really care for the dome lights or anything fancy. Just the working headlights/tails/turn signals/ and of course running car. |

Can you match the colour codes of the cut wires? That might be easier ... repair them one by one
There were changes in the wiring and fuse box shape around 1971/2: the later cars had the blinker/headlight relays (box thingies) mounted on the fusebox frame under the bonnet where the earlier cars had them installed on a steel post behind the speedo
The wiring in a Bug is a little "casual" from the factory! |

The head lights are snipped, harness that goes out to the engine bay are snipped up as well. Under the bonnet is another story...
Would been better if i knew where everything went but i bought it this way. |

None of the usual vendors I've seen carries the 75-up harness either.
This is probably your best bet, they'll actually make one for you from scratch that's an exact duplicate of the original:

It won't be cheap though. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

I bought this one, but I am actually building a baja so I can probably use anything...
I would be willing to trade, I will probably just harvest the wires off of it anyway.
It is for FI though... maybe check the technical area for a wiring diagram to see what the difference is.
