I have a set of door panels that are black . I want gray ones .
Does anyone have any experience using vynal spray on doorpanels ?
Brand used ???
Photos ???
I was watching a TV show where they spray painted a plastic Frisbee . they used a special primer
Anyone know about vynal paint primers ?
Thanks ..... _________________ 63 two fold rag

There are a number of options out there; Duplicolor makes a pretty good product, SEM is even better. The key, like everything else is prep. You need to thoroughly clean the surface with a special vinyl cleaner. Some pros very light scuff the surface to get better adhesion. I would advise caution with that last step as you want to go from a dark colour to a light one. It may take a few coats to achieve the look you want. |

X2 on SEM products. I have sprayed many vinyl items with SEM and have had no issues. It sprays and covers excellent and have had much better luck than the pooplicolor products. _________________ 1965 Herbie Replica. 1776cc dual Kads.

X3 for sems. Back in 2010 if had some green and grey matched up, and I resprayed my panels. Turned out great, and has held up great.
Bad lighting, but you get the idea.

If you have spell check working, a red line will appear under the misspelled word. Hover mouse cursor over the red lined word and right click. A pop up window will give you possible alternatives to what you mentally fat thumbed thru....

Personally not going to windows 10... Looking into Linux, supposed to be easier on older computers so they end up faster running.
Would be good if you changed the title for other to be able to find this info! _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I typed "vynal" three times in the dark in front of a mirror, and poof!, my desktop got windows NT.
Count me in as vote number 4 for SEM. _________________

I'm another supporter of SEM. About 12 yrs ago I had some dark blue and some black door panels which I painted off-white with the SEM spray paint. Good prep of the panels is 80% of getting good results; the remaining 20% is spraying technique.
To prep the panels, I scrubbed them with SimpleGreen and either a magic eraser or a kitchen dish scrub brush. Get the edges also. Rinse off with a light water spray like out of a plant watering can. Wipe the surface off dry, then set the panels out in the sun for 1/2 hr or so. Wipe the surface off with a degreaser such as isopropyl alcohol, or even Windex spray. Wipe off fully. Blow off with compressed air, then set in the sun again. Set the spray can out as well so it warms up a bit. I set the panels flat on the top of 2 garbage cans and some 5-gal buckets, but a slight angle is OK.
SHAKE the spray can! Go over the surface with a light sweep going all the way across. Don't break up your sweep part way! Give the edges a similar shot. Go to the next panel and repeat. Go back to the first one and apply a similar light coat which will cover alot more. The first light coat will be tacky and the 2nd coat will stick better. Go to 2nd panel. Give the first panel a final (3rd) coat, then bring it inside to dry out of the outdoor dust and insects. Let dry for 2 days. IIRC 1 can was enough for the 4 interior Beetle panels.
@StaleAir- your resprayed panels look great! |

Two questions:
Where do you buy SEM products?
Can you use it to dye a vinyl sunroof?

I had a go with some vinyl dye painting some wheel trims and the colour looks great but my prep was poor! I think I needed to scuff them up a bit as in many spots it is peeling off.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I use to remove it and start over? _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver

The internet of course!
Or use their web page to locate a local purveyor of their line of fine products. _________________
