Today I removed an old Claude's Buggies bolt-on extra sump from my 1974 Thing to get it back to stock. I noticed a black rubber grommet/seal around the pick-up tube. The stock oil filter screen flange (and gasket) won't push up flush against the bottom of the sump. The grommet seems to be in the way. Is this because the rubber grommet is from the add-on CB sump kit (to hold a mini oil filter that came with it in place)? Or is that grommet part of the stock oil pick-up tube assembly?

One other problem is that I made the mistake of trying to remove the last of the six studs before noticing it attaches the oil pick-up tube assembly to the inside of the sump. I ended up ruining the threads on the stud. It seems to have the head of a bolt when I look inside the sump. Is this particular stud meant to be removed- or will I need to get the tap/die set out to cut new threads?
