Don't worry too much about measurements - just trim the inside edge a little at a time until the pans sit flush against the tunnel and at the front and rear with the outer corners at the front and rear sitting flush against the chassis. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

To eliminate all possible errors. Drop the body down and line it up. Trim the inside pan edge til it fits perfect.
Remove body and weld in place. |
Please don't weld the body to the pans ..... I spent a month of Sundays trying to cut the body of a coupe free because someone did that. _________________ ----------------------

I know this thread is old, but I have the exact same problem as the original poster. I too bought a basket case that the previous owner had given up on, the pans were already cut out and the frame cleaned up. There is not any evidence left on the center chassis to determine where the original pans sat.
Would anybody happen to have some good close up photos of the the front and rear outside edges of the pans installed? I have a good idea of what has been described, but this is not something I want to do twice. |

I guess I need to work on my search skills, I never saw that thread pop up. Thanks for the link, that should be more than enough to make me dangerous. |
