During my trip to HCBF I used my shower and once again was thinking how I needed to tweak my solar shower set up. The hose was not quite long enough. But more aggravating was the twist on twist off shower head that is tiny and near impossible to grip once your hands are soapy.
See how short the hose is? And the teeny shower head that's difficult to twist close.
The new "shower head" and barb:
That's more like it;
That hose clamp is from the Westy, I had ordered some new ones for my new fuel lines but kept the old. Seems appropriate for my shower.
Whoa! Check out that range! Now I can hit all those hard to reach areas.

Nice Hack,
I dont have one of these, but want one. Looks like you could block a few of the holes on your spray gun, and add a brick to the top of the solar bag. It would increase pressure? Just thinking over coffee... _________________ 1978 Westfalia Campmobile 2.0L oversized ham heads and a stepped up cam, running points and a 76 exhaust "Lefty Loosy" |

Good question, though I normally leave the bag flat on my roof the pressure is better when the bag is upright.
I try to minimize what I carry and try to make everything have more than one purpose. So, I was thinking I could "lift" one side of the bag with leveling blocks I use under my wheels as I typically don't use all the ones I carry.
But that is the next design hurdle: pressure. _________________ Godspeed

Sweet hack. I know surfers like those bags for rinsing the salt water off too. I had two over the last few years, but the construction of the joint where the plastic valve is kept ripping… From being out in the sun… It seemed the plastic construction wasn't up to the UV disintegration. Odd, when you think it's a product that is DESIGNED to live in direct sunlight!
Oh well, your mod will take significant strain off the original knob and probably reduce that possibility of failure!

Thanks Robbie.
I filled the bag and set it on the deck for about 2 hours. It's already 90 here in Atlanta by lunch so it's hot in general. The bag has a built in thermometer which read "128", the highest the meter goes.
This pic shows the water coming out I think strong enough to get soap out. Especially when the water is warm or hot, that should help matters. I know I had to hold the camera at an angle but the outlet was still parallel to the ground.

The next step I wanted to add was a curtain to keep the inside dry while a person rinses off. And whenever possible, I like for things in the Bus to be dual purpose. I now have a curtain that keeps the inside dry and can be used for a picnic blanket, lay on while working under the Bus, even a table cloth if needed.
First, I picked up this "Sport Utility Blanket". Traditional tarp on one side, soft fabric on the other:
Then, I bought some snaps (these at REI)
Many of us have snaps installed already, even if the PO didn't pass along the snap in screen, a lot of times the hardware is still there, at least it was for me:
And, when you take it down, it's comfortable enough to lay on a lawn with. If you have a "Neat Sheet", it basically feels the same:

I haven't had good luck with those in the past. Hard to get a quality one.
I have this hatch tent: http://www.busdepot.com/ahg
With my shower bag in the rear luggage tray, the hatch tent up, and now with my new homemade curtain, I've got a good enclosed space for showers, changing clothes, or camp toilet location. And I don't have to fool with tent poles. _________________ Godspeed

Nice setups,im going to get a solar shower for next summer.
As with most plastics and rubbers drying out, they can be treated with silicone spray to keep the rubber "moist" in a way. _________________ ---------------------------------------------------------

Very cool on the Softarp addition. I keep a small regular tarp in my rooftop box for the same reason, which is just about any tarp need. Also, you’ll find the snap kit really handy for all sorts of camper/camping things. I absolutely love mine. I ordered a bulk of snaps for about $5 on Ebay and now have enough for life. They came with all 4 common snap pieces (except for the screws) for use on hard or soft surfaces. |
