If 200161 was a VIN # it would be from September, 1956 and the body #s are behind the VIN #s so it's a '57 either way.

It's probably from October or November, 1956.

Is the VIN # in the engine compartment missing?

November 56 production, which makes it 56 calender year, and 57 model year. A 57 panel

In Europe I think they use calendar year, not model year.
If so, and the OP in in Europe, a November 56 bus is considered a 56 bus.

Anyhow, here is where you can look up the VIN to find production month and year:

my 59 beetle was a 60 model. there is no difference as far as model years are concerned.
