Hello,

I have some problems with my carburator from my Type 3 1500 from 67.
I have a single carburator solex 32 phn-1 and I want to know the basis configuration of this carburator.

How many half turns must I turn out the idling screw?
How many half turns must I turn out the air/gas screw?

Is there anything else which I have to pay attention?

I did so many configurations now but I can't find the right one.
The car is stuttering a lil bit when I'm accelerating. It seems as something i blocking.

I cleaned and renewed the entire carburator already with an ultrasound pool.

I hope that someone can give me this information?

Thanks!
(Sorry for my bad technical english Sad )

Best regards
Lauro

This might help you:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/32phn.php

The acceleration problem you describe is common on the 32 PHN/PHN-1/PHN-2 carbs.

Hello T3KG,

The exact adjustment of the idle and volume screws will depend on many factors particular to each car so there's not a correct number of turns.

Here's the adjustment procedure I usually follow: Start by carefully turning the volume screw all the way in -- not too tight, because it's easy to damage the tip of the screw -- and then turn it back out about one and a half turns as a starting point. Then start the car and let it warm up and make sure that the choke is working properly. When the engine is warmed up and the choke is fully open, adjust the idle to around 600-700 RPM with the idle screw. Then turn the volume screw in until the engine begins to slow down slightly, then back out until it runs fastest, and then a little more. Then readjust the idle speed to about 650 RPM.

When driving look for obvious signs of running too lean or too rich and adjust accordingly.

Accelerator pump adjustments are also possible on PHN-1 and PHN-2 carbs. You could try adjusting one way or another to see if it helps.

Other factors can also contribute to stumbling acceleration. Be sure the valves, point gap and timing are all correct. Make sure your fuel pump isn't under- or over-delivering fuel to the carb.

Even with everything adjusted as carefully as possible it's not unusual for PHN carbs to have a slight stumble or hesitation, especially if you're accelerating while cornering.

Does this car have an 009 distributor on it? If so, is it timed correctly? With an 009, you want to time it to 28-30 degrees at 2800 rpm, and let the idle timing fall where it will.
