Since trunk weatherstrip is being discussed in two different threads right now and Lahti411 has supplied a link to a very good source of generic seals in Finland...I thought i would consolidate a few pieces of info for those here as well.

Lahti411's link:http://files.kotisivukone.com/korjakumi.kotisivukone.com/tiedostot/108_Muotonauhat.pdf

My inks from the other post:

https://www.auveco.com/

http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/index.html catalog

Their weatherstrips start at page 334-335.....but to get a real feel for the depth oof this catalog....start at the front and page your way there! Very Happy ....you will be stunned at what you see that you can probably use elsewhere in your car.

On page 335-336....are some of the sponge OEM type weather strips that can be used/modified to work on the doors. http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/index.html#?page=336

On page 342 starts the window channel seals, glass seals and parts that will be more useful for sealing your trunk
http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/index.html#?page=342

I have been thinking for some time that one of the seal types on page 336-337 could be slit on one side to slip over the vertical steel lip that the existing trunk seal attaches to. It would not be factory...but would seal perfectly and look professional.....

Part # 4703 on page 336 could work

Or part # 4750 on page 337.

And this company...is a GOLDMINE of seals:

http://www.steelerubber.com/universal-parts

Starting here: SIX PAGES of EPDM foam seal profiles available by the foot!
http://www.steelerubber.com/sponge-extrusions

Not to mention glass groove extrusion pages.....and under dense rubber extrusions...several generic profiles that could very well work for our window glass if the sizing is right.

Awesome!

Hi
I'm looking for window rubber. Like to reinstall windows.
Does anyone have any source for new or NOS window rubber for a 411?
I'm looking for rubber for the windshield as well as rubber for ALL of the windows. If anyone knows of ANY or has a link, that would be great. I've been searching around and haven't found any yet.

I was swapping new trunk seal for my BMW and the seal profile was looking very familiar ...

http://kharon.suomiforum.com/www/412/IMG_4304.jpg

So I took the old seal and put it into 412 and it was fitting there almost perfectly, I had to cut less than half inch away between hard corners and that's that: it sits nicely and trunk lid closes as it should, so it's almost perfect replacement.

Too short of course as 412 trunk lid is much bigger, but it's only missing couple of feet in the middle.

BMW part # 51711908443, about $70 from dealer and you'd need two with some surplus (probably enough for 2 other cars). Not cheap but yardware isn't cheap either (and sometimes hard to get).

(I can buy one piece of surplus to share the cost if someone decides to go this route.)

For me a no-brainer as the old seal isn't worth anything.

BMW seals are also very high quality: The old seal is still quite soft after 27 years and 240k miles, but it has some damage from loading the trunk, so I decided to swap it.

Do you have one? Post a picture. My parts list is not keyed or searchable....and so far ot does not appear on Google. Ray

Edit.....just found the add. Horrible picture but......it looks like the engine compartment seal that goes into the chassis groove on a type 1 based bus.
