Now everything is finished. Blinkers and horn all work correctly now. I've been thinking (trouble) I wonder if I can cut a small size hole in the side of the buggy and install some kind of glovebox. I have pods on it, so it should be ok. Just need to get a door that fits flush like a boat storage door. Also what do you think of finishing the gas gauge trim off, so that the chrome comes to a point at the edges. Just a small piece on each side.?

Just type in Lighted Horn Button. Or Lighted auto button. There are all kinds, THese are momentary buttons, not the on/off one's.

I think taking all of the function's, Horn and Turn signal off of the steering column is a mistake. Having both of your hands on the steering wheel is much better than one hand. I bet you will soon get tired of poking your new button's witch could be dangerous and lead to not using your turn signals the way you should.

True, but when making a turn, you need to down shift anyways. So when you take your hand off the wheel to down shift you just need to hit the button right in front of the shifter.

Next you are going to say driving interferes with eating a Big Mac while holding a hot cup of coffee between your legs and taking on cell phone ...

I like chrome (ok polished aluminum) so why not add the VW side trim to either side of the fuel gauge with the points at either end?

Thats what I asked in the first post. I think it would look good, just wanted to get some other replies. As to what others think. Always trying to keep an open mind for ideas.

Alfred; I think you are looking for the Honda Civic forum.

My turn signal switch is directly above my gearshift. I can downshift and hit the turn signal switch with one hand. Other stays on the wheel. Most steering column switches are on the left of the wheel. To downshift and hit the turn switch requires "juggling" the wheel in that configuration....you may not realize it, but you let go of the wheel when you hit your signal stalk.

Dash looks great. Don't change a thing.

Of course it does... Laughing

If you have to bend forward to press a button to indicate a turn or honk the horn (Emergency).... they are not in the optimal position..

Its a Dune Buggy... a street legal (loosely used term) overgrown go-cart...
Im just glad the owners add the basic safety items to begin with.. At least the turn signal may be flashing as you're thrown out and hopefully clear during an accident..

In reality...we all need to consider wearing helmets these days..

Some mount to the shock towers and others to the firewall. I've had mine off to do the rebuild but got to put it back on.

I've had a few "up the azz" drivers get too close at lights.
To be clear I've also almost backed my exhausts into the garage wall.....

Which would be safer for backing up and gently hitting something? Shock towers?

For those liking shiney bits and wanting to keep the controls on the original VW stalks (like I did), the cannbe stripped back and polish up very well. I also converted the washer function from the air pressure set up to a very small push to make switch powering an electric pump and kept it within the stalk/cowl set up. The only switches on my dash are the pull switches for the lights and emergency flashers.

Daanbc,

Any help on the wiring? I ordered the switch and all that came was a switch in a baggie. Looks nice.

There are five terminals:
+ positive
- negative
C ???
NO normally open
NC normally closed

I understand to hook up + and - to the 12 volt supply (likely for the light). The NO should go to the horn.

What about C?

Thank you, Jeff

The + and - are for the light. The horn connects to the "C" and "NO". Nothing is connected to the "NC"

C = common
NO = Normally open
NC = Normally closed
