So would the adjustments to my carburetors lead to the need of adjusting my timing and ignition?
As of right now, after of course learning I was out of gas, even with fuel being deliveried to both carbs, I cannot for the life of me to get the bus to run, let alone idle. This is bizarre.
I apparently (dangerously) read Colin's works on fine tuning Dual Solex carbs and jacked my ride up. She was getting good gas mileage and solid pickup. Dammit!!! |
Not dwell. But you always need to set idle and check timing.
Check the filters. Maybe you sucked up some stuff when it ran out of gas.
Good luck

Running clear out of gas is notorious for sucking all of the crap from your tank into the fuel system.
Oftentimes, the crap can go past the filters magically somehow.
You will likely see the results of this in the idle circuit, where the passages are smallest.
Symptoms might be the mixture screws not responding..
Might as well open the carbs up and do the blow-out routine with carb cleaner and compressed air..
Pull idle jets and mixture screws (after counting how many turns out from bottomed) and give them the old blow-out.
Carbs changing wouldn't change ignition per se, but you can be visited by the Invisible Shit Fairy that comes and breaks things in the night.
Have seen her work before... She magically breaks two things at once.
Might give it a check with your timing light to verify she hasn't been by.. _________________ Bus Motor Build

You saying the patina looks bad?!
Are the suppose to be a true white or an off-white creamy color? |
Yes, patina bumpers look not so good in my opinion. The paint code for the correct color white is in the technical tabs. You can take the code to a auto body paint supplier and they can mix up some paint to spray or they can mix it up and put it in spray cans for you.
It's make a HUGE difference in the appearance of your bus. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

The lady has been harping me for a while about them. You saying the patina looks bad?!

No patina is good
Its just that the bus looks so nice
They are supposed to be pastel white I believe or Lotus white Either way they are both a creamy, yellowish white. I just did mine in Rustoleum white - especially on my 74. I like the contrast way better on a bus thats all white. _________________

Just for Notch, here it is:
This is Rustoleum's Heirloom White. Took the advice from a fellow member in matching attempts to L90D (Pastel White). I think it looks pretty good, I'd like to wax it to seal it but that'll be another day.
Also took apart my shifter, cleaned and regreased it. It was crusty and dried up goop. Also caught a small shot of the two front bushings I am missing. Does the one that goes into the shaft really do much, I can understand the O-ring one serving a purpose of being a guide, but the front pop-in one just doesn't seem to important to me. Educate me.

There isn't anything that goes in the end of the rod, on earlier (pre 73) models there's a bushing that goes into the end, but it's a radically different mechanism. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

No pain. Just refreshing. You threw me off with your question. "Does the one that goes into the shaft really do much," This pic has the bushings and their locations.
I do not know of a Tech tip for replacing the bushings. Seems it comes in bits and pieces. There was one Guest that did the whole job front to back. But I think it is buried in a build thread.
It is pretty straight forward.
Good luck

Where would #5 go on a 79, and on no other year of bay? I did #1, #2, 2x#3 on my 79 just wonder if I missed number 5. _________________ 1979 Westfalia "FireFly" Subaru 2.2 with Subaru gears 5spd.

Does not fit a T2. Fits T25 79-92. I will have to edit that.
Thank you

So the front end got the same treatment as the rear!
Prior to placing the bumper back on, the bus got some scrubbing:
Still working out my dumbass mistakes made on the carbs and timing, so no camping this past weekend.
Weather is getting good though, someone wiggle their nose or say some voodoo bus magic, I'm needing some help! _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Looking real good, Sam. And seeing your wheels has made up my mind about how I'm going to do mine. I like the white and chrome with the orange bus. Not sure about the white walls, though.
Thanks for posting the update. Yours was the first rebuild thread I read on Samba, so it's good to hear the progress. _________________ -Kent-
