Shift linkage bushings along with H4 headlights are on the way. I need an "easier" tinkering job. Currently have the 65 Beetle 40HP torn down, assessing wear on VW pistons and cylinders. Hopefully they're reusable.
Anyone have tips on fixing up our stock heating, the defrost is like an old lady trying to blow out her 100th birthday candles.... _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

So the cooler weather is finally beginning to show up here in Arkansas and my first fall/winter with the need of mainly defrost in the bus is coming upon me.
Now I have replaced the two long heater cables going from the dash to the heater boxes, and am in need of some layout clarification. I have the 2 heater controls in my dash. I need to replace one of my heat insulation tubes (heater box to body tube), but am not getting anything at the dash. All the channels/tubes are getting hot aside from the main vertical body tube under the dash. Seems that all the heat is going to the center vent.
Now my cable going from the floor pan back to the lever for the center vent will not move unless I crawl under the bus but even when I move it, either way I am still not receiving heat.
Does one dash lever control BOTH heat box flaps???
While the other controls the defrost/floor/center flaps?
Looking for some insight, panning the web isn't striking much luck and I can't find my Bentley! _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

An eventful day, indeed!
Here are my pics of my Heating ducting, that I then cleaned, wrapped in alumninum-backing insulation, sealed with Hvac aluminum tape, and rezip-tied the water/weather jacket from VW. I had to replace the joint section because it was roached, that is the shiny new aluminum hose with clamps shown below:
And yes, that's a hefty dent in the tube. Canoeing and back-roading back in the day must've did it in.
As for the big ole issue of no flow in my ducting, well folks, please meet Mr Harry, the VW Heating duct mouse!
I wonder how long the poor bastard has been in there.
Aside from getting the Heating working well, whoa!, no one shared with me the Shit that flys out and in your face and mouth when the heat gets going through the defrost, good thing I had my safety glasses! I managed to replace my two front most bushings on my shift linkage, no more sloppy shifter! Still dialing in the perfect placement of the mounting bracket, it isn't always the cleanest getting into 2nd from a downshift.
H4 Headlights, such an improvement, a big plus since my favorite time cruising in the bus is at night. I highly suggest these halogens or the led replacements now being offered.
Cheers everyone, get out there and camp! Time for some Mexican grub con mi chica! _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Bwwwwaaa! Hell yeah stuff flys out. Mine had little husks like wheat flack shells that would fly out while in use. When I put the new motor in and had all the heat hooked up I pulled the tubes and gave it all a good suck with the vac - come to find out those husks were maggot casings. Left behind from a mouse nest feast hidden in the ducting. _________________

That's some nasty shit right there! I hope you had a hantavirus type dust mask on! I really wonder if it would be worth trying to flush out the whole ducting system with some bleach water?!? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Well I am quite aware of the nasty nasty trouble that hanta virus can create, but unfortunately grabbing little man's tail thinking it was a twig was a kick! No mask or gloves, and I have since had the heat cooking me out of the cab.
Hopefully as dried up as the whole mess was, the nastiest left long ago.
On a lighter note, I am very pleased and impressed with the heat. Especially when driving, the heat is consistent, hot and the blower motor pushes good pressure through the tubes. I'm needing to replace the short cables for the dash, believing there are two. Anyone have a part number on the cable going from the bottom of the floor vent to the flap that directs air flow to the center vent?? _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Ahh the good old days. It seems like yesterday when I did my first death grip on a railing at an Ice rink. That was followed by a mild concussion. _________________

I'm pretty sure the question has been answered...
But I still want to give my .02...
Yup, you should definitely buy it.

Robbie is coming over tomorrow to help me switch to FI, and I can't wait til it's up and running. But I'm sure I'm missing some parts or gaskets so probably won't be driveable tomorrow... but soon! _________________ -Kent-
