Hi all! Finally got my engine parts back from the machine shop. My question is how should the rods be oriented on the crank. From what I've read, the casting mark on the side of the con rod beam (which is also on the same side as the cap and rod number stampings) should face up. The problem is, I don't have any casting marks on the side of my rod beams, just the number stampings.
I've also read the bearing tangs should point down. The problem is the tangs are on the same side as the number stampings. So should it be tangs and number stampings facing down or facing up? Thanks for any insight. |

You should consult the Bently manual but I am pretty sure that 25 and 36hp rods can go on either way. It wasn't until the 40 hp and later that they had an offset in the rod and a bump on one side of the rod. _________________ Chris

I looked it up in the 52-57 Bentley manual. This is all it says:
Reinsert connecting rod bearing shells after all parts have been thoroughly cleaned and assemble connecting rods on crankshaft. The identification numbers stamped on the rods and bearing caps must both be on one side.
I can find nowhere where it says they have to be oriented on the crankshaft a certain way. _________________ Chris
