Whilst looking for a good stuble axle amongst my collection of parts, I came across one with only one grease nipple on it, which unlike the type we are all used to, with 2 grease nipples on the front, one top & bottom, with this stub axle, the grease nipple is on the top only, and like on a Kubel, the grease goes through a hole through the centre of the king pin, and exits at the base to lubricate the bottom link pin.

This arrangement can be seen on the 45 parts list: http://www.zarwerks.com/45partsmanual/45partsmanual.htm

I have a feeling that this stub axle came off a May 47 chassis I have, but my May 47 car, which is 30 chassis numbers later, has the two nipple stub axles, which I assume was fitted as a sensible retro fit at some later stage in the cars life.

Does anyone know when these one grease nipple stub axles were fitted until please? Are they are rare item today? I don't recall seeing any for sale anywhere.

One nipple version was in use for Typ 60 and Typ 11 up to chassis 1-071477.

Many thanks for that. You are a mine of information.

Do many people still have these fitted to their cars? I need to get on my hands & knees at future shows it seems to find out.

Looks like I'll be in good company! Did her lipstick roll under the car?
