Hi...Howdy...Hello...Greetings...Wazzupp...Yo...pick your favorite introduction.
Name's Chase. Currently living in San Antonio. Recently got "Bug-Bit" (again), went out and picked up a '69 (registered as) Beetle. For the most part a complete car. 1641 motor, decent running. Didn't look this one over as good as I should have though. Major rust and electrical issues.
It has a '69 front clip with a '69 vin# plate. But the pan is a '67, fenders are pre '67. A mixed and mashed (in the front) classic bug. Gonna be a good project.
I'll post some pics shortly. _________________ Chase |

Thanks for the tip. The more I dig into this bug, the more evidence I find that this is a '67, body and pan, although the body is from a different pan.
The dash, some of the structural layout. Plus I found crash damage in the inner front clip. I think the tire tub and front skin was replaced and the VIN plate was left on. Then the car was registered under that VIN.
I do believe I have a '67. Gonna be fun to register it when it's finished. _________________ Chase |

It looks like a 67 from what I can see of it. Is the transaxle swing or double jointed? What is commonly called IRS - a misnomer since swing axle is also independent suspension. I'd check the numbers on the dash and tunnel against the registered VIN number. You may have trouble registering it if you need to go through an inspection. More than a few cars have been stolen over the years by someone that had a title to a turd of a car --- well - you can guess the rest. _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! Thanks Old VW. No VIN plate on the dash, that didn't start until 69 I think. I didn't catch it when I bought it. I've been on a STEEP learning curve on bugs since I got it. Knowing what I know now about this car I wouldn't have bought it, at least not for what I paid for it (I'll keep that on the low...lol) ....too much.
Be that as it may, it is a swing-axle. And the dash is the biggest give-away. _________________ Chase |

Wow, looks like a decent project. Have you had a chance to meet up with any of the local clubs yet? There must be around 10? clubs in the San Antonio area now. There is a show at Traders Village on Labor Day weekend you can't miss, it gets bigger every year. Hot VWs is supposed to be attending this year. Come on out! _________________ 1956 Ragtop |
