Walking away from it was the best thing you could have done, your wallet thanks you. There's a reason the dealers pet name for them is "toe tag". _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I am going to assume that the transmission was shifting, but it just would not accelerate past 45. I bet there where a lot of trouble codes even if there where no warning lights. Modern water-cooled VWs will go into what is known as limp mode if certain issues are detected by the ecu. Anyone looking at a newer VW that is out of warranty should bring a VW specific obd2 scanner to check for codes and emission readiness. One of these scan tools such as a Vgate VS450 can be found online for about $40. A generic odb2 scanner might pull trouble codes but a quick check of the emission readiness will determine if the codes had just been reset before your test drive. It takes several key cycles without trouble codes for it to past an emission readiness test. |

The dealer knows and told the car lot exactly whats wrong with the car and its probably either catastrophic or prohibitively expensive to repair. Theyre hedging their bet you'll buy the car anyway hoping its an "easy fix".
Hard to believe the instrument cluster and MFI weren't going off like fireworks. |
