I bought this one out of a junkyard, put on a new coat of paint, put new carpet and panels in and put in a rebuilt 2.0L w/dual 44s and rebuilt 6 rib transmission and we're good to go. This is my first VW and air cooled and we're loving it.

Children were out of school last week so the wife and I took them and went on vacation. Left Atlanta on Sunday around 0630 and rolled back roads to Savannah, 95 to Daytona and A1A/Hwy 1 to Cocoa Beach (our destination). We spent three days there bodyboarding and ran into a Vanagon owner over at Ron Jon's...

Wednesday we left and headed up A1A into Cape Canaveral. Decided to do the Kennedy Space Center thing before setting up camp in a real nice, quiet, shaded parking area on the Indian River overlooking the tall NASA building. There we also were able to watch the bioluminescent plankton at night glowing up the river.

Continued Thursday morning up A1A into Daytona to drive on the beach and grab some lunch before settling down just outside the city at an RV park overlooking the ocean. That was very cool.

We then continued up AIA into Jacksonville then veered off to Savannah where we stayed with my wife's aunt before coming back to Atlanta on Saturday (yesterday).

Thirteen hundred mile trip, averaging around 17.5 mpg. Mr. B ran like a champ the entire trip. Only downside was left side HID went out on the way home. This was also a good test run for the newly installed solar set up on there and my fridge never got above 46°.

What a time we had.

Thank, fellas! We're still enjoying this thing. Last week, the wife and I mocked up a temporary road map of our trip to PEI, Canada this summer.

A couple of things added over the past couple of weeks. Aside from beefing up the heating in the bus, I put on a side step (young son loves it loves using it and then I picked up the 3rd brake (STOP) light.

Wow what a nice bus! You really scored a nice first VW and its a bus to boot! Driving up and down the coast camping is the best, continue to drive the heck out of it and enjoy.

Thank you, very much. We are very much enjoying it.

Just wanted to add a picture of what it looked like the very first time I saw it.

In June, the family and I hopped in and took off for New York City. Wife has always wanted to see the Statue of Liberty, so we hopped in the bus and took off. We left Atlanta last Sunday and got home this afternoon. Stayed a couple of nights in North Carolina including one night in the Outer Banks before spending the night in Lewe's, Delaware. We got to New York City and did the usual touristy stuff. We went and stayed in York, PA before heading into DC and then back over to Richmond, VA before a night in Winston Salem, NC and back home. All in all, a trip worth taking and we had a good time. Twenty-two hundred miles were driven for this trip.
