Anything I need to do/know about painting the hinges on my bug? Seems like it could be a problem area since they are exposed. I'm thinking if the paint/clear is allowed to fully harden, it might chip when the door is opened.
Am I over thinking this?

You aren't over thinking this. The first bug I ever painted I had that problem - never gave it a thought. That 62 came out looking great - except for the door hinge on the passenger side. It slightly cracked on opening. It wasn't a huge deal since it wasn't ever going to be showroom quality but had I thought about it even briefly I think I'd have found some twine that fit snugly between the hinges. Trim the excess and spray. Anything that would separate those two surfaces should work fine.

Ha. Nice fix. Thank you for that. Mine wont be show quality either(since I'm the one attempting to paint it) but it dawned on me and I had never seen it addressed.

First, get 'em clean . . . like sandblasted!
Do NOT build them up with a bunch of primer . . . keep the primer/paint film in there as thin as possible.
Consider slicing the paint in the hinge joints with an EXacto knife before the paint fully cures.
