Well I guess I jumped into the fire pits.
Pulled my alternator off and apart to powder coat the case/ stand/ fan/ pulleys/ and engine tins.

I would like to go ahead and replace both bearings and the brushes while I have it down.

Only thing is I can not seem to find anywhere that sells internal parts for these things.
I really dont want to go get a reman one and steal the guts out of it.

As for the engine up grade looks like I will be going from a 2180 to a 2276
from dual 44s to dual 48s and from low compression to around 10.5:1
1.4 ratio rocker arms and good cylinders/pistons. and a set of highly modified heads ported to about the max allowed.
will post pictures after a minute

As for brushes and bearings check with any specialty automotive (truck) electrical repair shop in your city...

Bearing may also be found at any good industrial bearing supplier...

You have to think outside the "VW parts suppliers" box...

there should be a stamp on the bearings that ought to get you at the least the dimensions. From there you can get any bearing with those dims your heart desires. If I can find seals to fit an old steering box you should be able to do this alt.

Is it a sand-dune killer?

Oh and when alternator powder coating is done, be sure to run ground wire to case.... Power coating is a vinyl base and will insulate alternator case from "stand" and probably will not work without proper ground...

Thanks for the tip dale. I had figured that. I will do both a ground wire and getting a good ground through the case by cleaning off some coating

Mind if I ask what you paid for coating those parts?

I'm in the mddle of building a large oven and would like to do exactly what you got there for people but I have no idea what is the going rate.

300 for blasting and coating and cooking.

I also had alot of chrome pieces that take more to blast. they did what you see plus valve covers, alternator bracket, front arms.
