Congratulations! A little wash and a wax, and that'd be one real stud. lol
I'm working on getting a 78 Champagne Westfalia right now, hopefully it comes through before the holidays.

My door panels seats and front carper are not the proper Champagne interior. Is there a supplier that reproduces the carpet and door panels in the proper brown? _________________ Jamie Auch

My bus doesnt have much of the CEII stuff left other than the intermittent wipers, brown dash stuff and half a paint job, but it suits my needs!
Planned production date was March 13, 1978
It now features:
- upright conversion 1776 + '71 3-rib transaxle (late bay bellhousing)
- '68 sportsmobile penthouse pop top
- '87 passenger front seats
- '74 full width westy bed
- highly modified '78, '75 westy and '80's Mexican aftermarket cabinets
- 27/8.5/r14 bf goodrich AT in the back and 27/8.5/r14 general grabbers up front
- '82 coleman Pack Horse 1 single wheel trailer
- between 10-20k miles a year added to the odo. It goes up and down the east coast several times a year as my home on the road while painting murals. _________________ Champagne Edition Roadtrip monster "Juakali"

I felt compelled to share this with you guys. Found this 1978 CEII about 3 weeks ago in Ottawa, Ontario. Been sitting for 18 years. I was informed through the grapevine that this bus had been sitting for a while and may be good for parts. As soon I got there I found this. I knew right away it was a CEII. Looks to be a great resto project. Surface rust and lots of patina. Interior looks great! Will have it towed this week. I bought the thing for a steal. VIN is 228 208 2248 with built 01/78. Canadian bus with KM/H Odometer. I already have a 1978 tin top that my mechanic and I have restored. Still wondering what I should do with this once I get the engine running...I couldn't pass on this one. Thoughts?

Nice score! If it were me I would spend some time on the motor, brakes, tires, etc and then spend LOTS of time bringing the paint back to original if you can. That is a wonderful example of a CEII... |

One i sent to the crusher (bad, bad rust) but it had air conditioning.
The second one, original paint, from Texas, I sold to a woman (Ali) in Columbus OHIO, she got it running (John Clancy German Autowerks) and then sold it one to two years later to a two women with a cooking business. This was a sunroof CEII, but they repainted it non-stock colors.
My 3rd CE is also a 78, but it's mine, a 78 Westy Deluxe. I did not drive it much this year, just replaced the windshield...but last year, after getting it running, drove it 4K miles. I love this bus and would all my others first. Made 2/78 vin --087850. |

I have a set of the TALL overriders, thought I would have them chromed to fit my CE.
I did not know the mirror was different too...I have one around here or there or there or someplace....
I know the floor mats are special too...turn signal switch...you know crap I have in the basement...

Hello,
just found this thread.
Back in 2013 I bought a 1977 CE I with a sunroof, build in 3/77. VIN is 123000
A guy who imports old Mercedes back to Germany saw it sitting in a dealer lot, had a spot free in the next container and brought it back "home". The car was registered in North Carolina all its live. 32.000 miles when I bought it. Allmost no rust, not even the battery tray. But the sunroof must have leaked, so the fabric and the filling in the rear seats were all rotted.
I spent the last three years restoring it to original condition. It's not entirely finished yet, but it drives and I took it to VW meets in Germany allready.
Here are some pictures, enjoy...

Great looking 77, not many in that good of condition and with original interior and bumpers.
