I need to move my car, pretty much by tomo, the fuel pump isnt pumping and the fuel flange/spacer/pin guide's bottom broke off in the block, i believe that the bottom is swollen (obviously) and is holding up the pin.

Ive already ordered a new flange, but it wont be here in time.

Can i pull out the bottom flange from the block and just use the upper halve as a guide for the pin until the new one gets here, would that even work?

My pump wasn't getting any fuel so I had to make a gas beer bong to fill the bowls. Just have someone feeding gas to the carb. If you you have FI, you outta luck.

How are you getting the bottom part out? before you do, make sure that's where the plunger is binding.

the botom and top are needed to guide the rod. with that said, dont try it. use a gravity or electrick pump.

In a situation like yours I find this to be the most effective tool:

As for Brians fuel bong?, an outboard boat motor tank is much more effective, but does lack the excitement factor that your fix exhibits Smile

I know.......... but as I get older I get wiser, sure the challenge of a Maguyver resurrection and banzai drive sounds great, but have something fall in and go through the gears causing the need to rebuild, or crash because the brakes aren't quite as dialed in as they should be and that ~$100 for the tow suddenly sounded like a much better idea. Old-old-old racers used a hand pump to put air pressure into tank to force fuel in to carb....

MAY NOT BE "FUEL SAFE"-!!!

How far do you have to "move" the car? A couple of blocks? A couple miles? Across the state?
Can you beg, buy, or steal a tow bar and a buddy to tow your car?
A couple gallon fuel jug, some duct tape to secure it to the back window, and s few feet of fuel line can get you 20 miles or so (maybe one of those squeeze-bulb boat fuel line primers). A cheap fire extinguisher is never a bad idea...

Hell, as long as you have a pressure regulator that sounds like a great idea

I use an old push mower gas tank, used it to move bugs when tsnk was out . A couple long tie wraps to vent area (below rear window), gravity feed to carb, u can drive indefinitely except 4 frequent fill of tank, an old washer bottle was used before the mower tank,as usual no warranty offered at this time.

Once, 30 some years ago, stuck way, way out in the NJ pine barrens in a Baja buggy with a dead fuel pump, desperate times called for desperate measures. The spare tire and washer bottle were moved to the rear parcel shelf, and a hose was spliced to make it from the washer bottle to the carb. Fill the bottle with gas and away you go, for a few miles till refill. Safe, no. But readily doable with what was at hand. I imagine our spare must've been low on air, or it would've flooded the carb. Probably lucky we didn't set fire to the car and ourselves..

I ended up taping a hole into the bottom part of the flange and threaded a rod down in and very carefully used 2wrenches and a pry bar to pull it up. I tapped on it with a hammer ever so slightly in a effort to break the bonds before hand. It came out but it was broken furth down and there were a few piece sitting on the distributor shelf. I used my shop vac and a bendy straw and used the vacuum to pull the pieces out but there was still a little bit left I could reach. I made an early morning commute to johns car corner in Westminster Vermont and they had what I needed a new flange and they checked my pump for me too. Once I got back I tested the fit and it was a bit snug so I sanded the outer surface of the flange until it didn't catch I had fuel pumping now. Then I did t have spark, I found out it was grounding on the putter cas of the distributor. Then I set the timing and now it runs!!!!!! It's got to get 30 miles. However I'm Bering this grindy noise from my shifting column , right now it's in neutral when I move the shifter around it goes away. I assume it's the tranny needing oil? Or old worn something
