Hey Samba....ers,
I am so happy to report that a new addition has now graced the shop space I call home. Good friends have owned this car for many years and decided it's time to sell. I was the first call. Thank you so much for picking me....;0)
The cool thing is the car was built on the same day/month/year as one of the previous owners. Special car indeed. Oh, and yes, that is a real EMPI wheel.
It was delivered to Europe and found it's way to Canada through the US. It's still got the original engine which is special. It also came with a 36hp engine that will be the one used for driving.
Here's some pics for your viewing pleasure...;0)

Wow it's beautiful! What day in December was it built? Mine is a December car too. I like the interior especially, I hope to have the same one someday. Congrats on an excellent looking car! |

It looks like it was done to color coordinate with the paint on the wheels and interior. Very nice.
Why not drive it with the original engine? You'll love the fuel mileage. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Hey Alan, the car was built on Dec 21, 1952.
Everett, running boards are not orig, but look nice as they match the wheels. The Robrie guards and boot scraper are real/orig items and look the part.
I was told original color of this car was beige but the owners wanted chestnut brown with red interior. I'm glad they did, because this combo is very nice.
Hey Blue Baron, the original engine needs to be freshened up so i'll ride with the 36er for now.
Thanks for the compliments. I am very happy to be the new caretaker. _________________ Terry Gaudet

Wow mine was built 10 days later on the 21st. I wanted the red interior on mine but couldnt pick an exterior color, didn't think brown would work with red but it isn't bad! Again, that's a beautiful car! |

Hello, Terry! I'm very happy for you! Was this Rob and Nancy's car previously? You have enough driving practice to keep that 36hp running at 70mph/110km/h all day . Or will you splurge for a WW OKRASA setup?
The Zwitter I had 15 yrs ago was the same original color chestnut brown, but POs had painted it black. Its chassis# was 1-0414918 (Nov. '52), and was built within 35 cars of the Zwitter which Chris Vallone from NY had up to last year. |

Hey Harvey, good to hear from you. How are things? My brother lives in Ottawa and I will be visiting him soon. Are you ok if I drop in to chat VWs?....;0)
Brian, thanks for the kind words. I wish this car was an original Canadian delivered one. But i'll have to settle for this one....lol
And Rome (Roland), yes this was Rob & Nancy's car. I was thinking of getting the WW Okrasa kit for more push. Do you know where your Zwitter went? _________________ Terry Gaudet

Terry, I've ridden in your car in the early 2000's when Rob owned it ! It was on one of the Der Kaefer Fahrer trips to the Michigan VW Club meet in Ypsilanti, in which our group from the NorthEast USA would drive into Canada and meet up with the Canadian friends somewhere around either Toronto or Hamilton and head west along Rt 402 to the Sarnia/Port Huron border crossing. Rob had a genuine 36-hp OKRASA engine in it at the time, and for most of the time I knew him and the car.
I sold my Zwitter in early 2003 to a NY VW enthusiast who lived on Long Island. He had the car repainted in the '67 Beetle color Savanna beige, and gave it to his dad in NJ. I last saw it at the 2004 June Bug meet in PA, then lost touch with him when our local VW group NorthEast VW Performance faded away. I found the Zwitter in Northwest CT in '91 per a friend who saw a local ad. It needed some welding to the body and chassis, and I ended up swapping the body onto a nearly solid '73 Beetle pan. Stock 1600 dual-port from the '73 onto which I installed Kadrons, which ran better than expected.
Later in '03 when I saw Rob in Canada and told him I sold the Zwitter, he was disappointed since he had his eye on the car as it was what he was looking for to a "T". Here's a shot of it from my gallery; I had "painted" the fenders, hood and engine lid Rust-O-Leum gloss black with a spray gun to get away from the half-primered look.

I thought I had seen this VW before. Beautiful car.
Went on a ‘Der Kafer Fahrer’ cruise with Rob and Nancy many years ago – this picture was taken near Bangor, Maine during a very memorable weekend. Great car and great couple!
Looks like the mudflaps fell off along the way somewhere though...

Hey Rome, your car looked like a euro racer. Nice!!!
Kaferdude, thanks for sharing the pic. Yes indeed, the mudflaps somehow ended up on shelf in my shop....;0) _________________ Terry Gaudet
