After driving my '79 bay window 8 hours from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I noticed the bus sputtering at stops. The next time I tried to start it, the bus would not stay on, but just sputter out. If I floor the gas pedal, the bus stays on but at a VERY low idle. It feels like it is out of gas, but there is plenty of gas. Could this be a fuel filter issue? Fuel pump? Vacuum? Distributor looks good, no corrosion

I think a vacuum leaks would be a like cause. Check for any hoses that might have fallen off or plain broke in two.

did it start slowly over the whole trip or suddenly?

is it a 1979 Federal with points or 1979 California with an electronic ignition?

X2, points? or electronic, and if points is the rubbing block intact? (gap/dwell OK?)

And assumedly fuel injected, no?

Found a hose missing coming out of the charcoal canister, don't know if that makes a difference. It is a 79 federal with points. It is fuel injected. Rubbing block looks good. It started suddenly right after it had cooled down from the trip.

Check the timing and dwell first before anything else.
