I've seen some cars with and without the interior rubber. Was this an option or only come on certain years. Also, was there anything under the carpet like padding, plastic, or anything. I have a 59 if that helps. Just wondering what is correct fro, the factory. Thanks |

The correct carpet configuration would be whats pictured below, with mats and a rubber tunnel mat in the middle areas.
From the factory there is no insulation on the floors.
Now, there are other companies that offer complete carpet kits, TMI, etc, but like Grandpa Pete said, if you want the correct setup for you 59, then Wolfsburg West is the place to go. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

The floor mats are flat one per side. The mat behind the pedals is fastened to the upper carpet. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

Very interesting and thanks for the replies. My car came gutted with no interior whatsoever except for the seats. So, in what year did vw start with the fully carpeted floors? |

After market kits are available that fully carpet the floors.
From the factory, I believe all bugs, supers included, came with rubber floor mats, even in the seventies. Early bugs (50's) had a carpet on the tunnel, but still had rubber mats on the floors. _________________ Plate of shrimp |

I'm aware of the carpet kits. I've just seen a million "restored" bugs with full carpet. I never knew that they only came with rubber mats. And if they did, what year that was started. |
