I bought a 1991 Jetta diesel,5sp manual tranny. I bought it out of province from Alberta. I need to get the car safetied in Sask. I brought it to Cdn. tire for the inspection and they said it needs a neutral safety switch before they can pass it. Some people say the car didn't come with one others say I'd did ! I looked all over on the car and can't find it. I was wondering if some one had pics of the switch if it exists or point me in the right direction. Any leads would be most appreciated. The only switch I see is on the back of tranny, but it just controls the reverse lights. There is no switch on the clutch pedal either. I have no manual for the car. I'm lost lol, I think I'll have a bud and drown my sorrows haha.

Clutch safety switches were not available that early. I have owned many Mk2 cars and not one had a safety switch.

The place where I brought the car said they called a local Vw dealer and said it had one! I will call around to several dealers I guess and see what they say. Some one is full of bs or lying not sure yet.

They're full of shit, the clutch safety switch was not mandatory until 1994 & was only introduced on the mk3 chassis cars. Your car is probably older than half the tech school flunkies at the dealerships. The only switches on the clutch pedal on your car is to disengage the cruise control, it will have two wires & a vacuum hose going to it.

I finally got the manager to see the light. They put two new tires on the back and it passed the safety. I had to phone several dealerships to convince them .
