|
|
It's time to get some tires for the bug - I've gone through a number of posts to try to figure out what size(s) to consider but I think I need some help.
I've got a new set of 5x15 rims with zero offset, here's some pics, as you can see they are about even with the outer fender lip.
The past versions on the car were 205/75/15 on stock looking rims, a bit too big for my taste but did not rub anywhere. However, I do like tires that don't look small for the wheel-wells, within reason.
The car has never generally sat low.
My local tire shop will mount several sizes on my new rims and let me take them home to put on the car, but I'm wondering what sizes are a good start? I know how the numbering translates to diameter, width etc, thinking maybe to start at 185-65-15 or thereabouts?
Any help is appreciated. _________________ My 1973 Standard Beetle Build SOLD

Im running 195/65 in rear and 175/65 in front on og sprint stars. The fronts are a little big but i needed tires and they were dirt cheap. Ill go a little smaller in the future. |

Considering where your new wheels sit in comparison to your fenders a 195 may be too wide. I'd first try a set of 185/65s.
With a 5 inch wheel I wouldn't go wider than a 185/65 or 195/65 anyways. |

I just bought a used pair of 205X70X15 Michelins for the back of my square. I have used 185X60X15 Firestones on the front. I won't buy any less than 60 Series profile tires.

Front are 185/65/15 and rear are 205/65/15. No rubbing ever.
But the rears do have a slight bit of poke.

That's a bit similar look to the 205 tires I had on the car before. I'd rather keep them within or equal to the fender lines, like the fronts that you have. thanks! _________________ My 1973 Standard Beetle Build SOLD

Going thru a similar process atm
0 offset is a lot different than the std rims, they are et 34(mm) about inch and a half, thats 34mm towards the inside from the mounting face of the rims
Dont go too wide or it will scrape your fender |

Seems looking at my car, that side pokes a tad and the otherside is inside the fender almost as much as that side pokes(maybe a bit less). The weirdness of a 45yr old car. |
