hello...I'm kinda stuck between choosing either of these vehicles; either one could be a new '15 or a new '16 MY vehicle. The price of the Subie is a bit better, but I still can't make up my mind. They each have their strengths & weaknesses. Base trim levels on both vehicles. I am willing to listen to your opinions & facts, so please feel free & tell me which one you would choose & why; and also let me know your positive & negative experiences with either model. Photos too if you have them! Thanks for your time & opinions!

I bought my wife a 13 CRV.
Wife is 5'2" fits her just right and she loves it.
We went with the Honda because the nearest Sub dealer
Was 75 miles away. I liked the Sub better, but the car was for her anyway.
I am 6'1" so No memory seat button means I can't get into it till
I look first, then bring the seat back and down every time before I get in.
Maybe they have addressed that issue of a memory seat button.
Great car otherwise. 26 to 27 in town mpg 31 usually hiway. Has 30k on it now without one hiccup.
Hope that helps |

Both are decent, but I would go suby. The joke about the Forester though is that it's a typical lesbian girl's car. _________________ Wash your hands

When the crv first came out they would put the trim level badge next to the model badge, I guess someone pointed out that CRV EX was too easily read as cervix & was guickly dropped. The Subaru has a lower/wider stance & longer wheelbase, much lower roll center & less twitchy at highway speeds. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Wife drives a 2012 CRV - comfortable, good gas mileage. No complaints. |

Do you need AWD in Utica? The Subbie of course is AWD and I think you can get the AWD in the CRV but do you want the added weight/expense/mileage penalty? If not, get a CRV FWD. That would help me decide. |

Well all I can add is that my brother-in-law who is the cheapest, most boring person I know went with the CRV. He is so cheap he once kept a pair of rusted & gouged rotors off his Honda van because "he might want to put them back on"....they had almost 200K on them.
And yes...I would definitely assume you want AWD in Utica.
And if you have excise tax in NY then go with a MY2015. It will be cheaper. And if you plan on selling in the future your average miles per year will be less with the MY2015 |

Let me clarify....no complaints about the car. The wife? We've been married 24 years...the complaining goes nowhere so I've stopped...
(Notice I said that I have stopped...she hasn't...) |

Cleveland gets plenty of lake effect snow and I drive around fine (usually) in my 2wd Ranger and my front wheel drive Fusion. It's the stopping, not the going that usually is the problem.

Good snow tires can make any car a lot better. The new cars and their advanced traction control systems are amazing.
My last two cars were hi HP and rear wheel drive but with good snow tires I commuted 100 miles a day in the country's snowiest city last year.
Of course on real bad days I took the wife's AWD SUV.
There is nothing better than AWD for all surfaces.
It looks like the difference in AWD to front wheel drive is about 1 MPG |

If it's truly a toss-up, how about helping American workers and picking the one with the highest U.S. content?
CRV score = 76
Forrester score = 1

Do more homework.
The Honda CRV is a nice vehicle no doubt.
The Subura format has been built an awful long time.
Think of it this way the VW just kept the same format, they kept improving upon what worked.
I vote Subaru. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I drive a '98 CRV (210k miles). Wife drives a 2006 outback (140k miles). The CRV just keeps going - I love that car. The Outback has never been very good to us - suspension geometry issues, radiator/coolant issues, AC issues, rusting issues & the auto transmission is now growling real bad. I won't ever step foot into a Subaru dealer based on my outback experience. I've never met anyone that has been unsatisfied with a CRV - I can't say the same about subaru. _________________ Wish List:

I had a Element AWD and loved that damn thing (except the 20 mpg) -- Drove it out onto a construction site without even thinking about it and parked -- 6 other guys with 4x4 trucks all got stuck trying to drive out to where I was LOL
Have heard some grumbles from Europe on the AWD in the CRV's -- something in the electronics won't engage the rear end when starting in icy conditions -- they put the front wheels on rollers and the rear wheels won't engage to drive off the rollers

I've been burnt twice with Subies -- wouldn't even take one if they paid me.... _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

Really you can't go wrong with either vehicle. I bought my wife the first Pilot delivered to our town back in 2002 (03 model). It is the best vehicle we've had. It is now being passed to our 17 yo daughter and has only required tires. Would I buy another Honda- yes. I'm always looking for a cheap commuter. But, if I had to buy another new car within the camparison, I'd have to go with the Forester- because my local Subi dealership simply kicks the local Honda's ass in their service department. Unfunny though it is, they have the same owner and are only 3 miles apart. _________________

The results are in! Looks like a twin decision!
I will be trading in a '09 Kia Sportage LX V6 4wd (70k), and she is trading in a '08 Hyundai Sonata SE V6 (54k)
Waiting for financing approval!
