That's pretty neat, I had one about 30 years ago when my kids were little and we had a lot of fun in it. |

Nice bus, and score!
I like that color. Have you checked the mplate ? If it has a 119, that heater is factory installed. My '70 has the factory Eberspacher. It's a tourist delivery. Picked up in the Netherlands. There is a decal on the gas door.
Does yours have this?
Someone obviously took out the icebox. Is that a 12v Norcold fridge?...
Looks like a nice project. Cool, man. |

Thanks all.
Dana Champion, It is a 119. The sticker has been painted over. There is two others that are on the fuel door that suffered the same fate.
I got the info off the plate:
22 212 014
172 276 518
918451 K46 P32 113 119
23 3 7543 KN 2319 41
Sloride: I am located in Bowmanville Ontario.
The engine is leaking gas on the right side. I have not tried to start it yet and will be doing all the required things prior to starting. |

Got the bus home and took some pictures. Removed the tank which was very clean. Still sent it out for a flush. Waiting to get the fuel line kit and vacuum kit from German Supply. Found that I am going to need a fuel pump, which in my luck is rare and expensive. Still a ways from firing up but at least its clean and fixable.

Tank out and back in. Cleaned. Was very clean inside. Changed all the vent hoses and now moving on to the carbs being rebuilt. The butterflies as loose and need to be bushed.
Also found that my battery box has a hole after vacuuming the engine area.
Could be worse I guess.

That's a very nice bus. You're on the right track in going through it after purchase. How are the brakes, steel brake lines, etc?
I'm sure you obviously know this but I'd start treating the rust under it on the frame. It's amazing how fast it eats away the metal. There are a lot of good products that you can use to neutralize it and then seal it. If you search "rust" in these forums, you'll see lots of ways folks have gone about it.
The body rust doesn't look too terrible. Where you see it bubbling is going to need to be opened up, de-rusted and the panels repaired.
Keep updating this thread. We all like to see buses brought back to life _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Brakes go to the floor. But all the brake lines look good. The master looks as though it is leaking in the one picture. I pump them and they get no better. Sounds like there is something hissing. Never dealt with the booster before and have not gone that far yet. Want the engine running and then moving to the mechanicals of the rest of the bus. Looking to get it road worthy and then restoring in the next couple years.

Great looking bus aside from that brake booster, it appears to have been leaking for quite a while. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

You can get the booster rebuilt or buy a new one from places like Wolfsburg West. You obviously need to pull all the wheels and inspect the innards. You'll probably need wheel cylinders in the rear and rebuild your calipers. You see a lot of old master cylinders leaking into the brake booster too.
I can't stress enough to buy the best brake components. YES, you can buy the cheap Chinese parts or Brazilian parts, but... you will pay for it sooner than later. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Thanks wcfvw69. Will do.
Found this little guy today. Little old lady kept it from her bus and was using it in her house. Got it for $10.
Took the cover off and was hoping for a clean stool. I decided to keep the cover on!

Not hoarding stools. Lucky to find this one.
The three clips are to hold on the custom nose bra that the previous owner made. Was hoping it was a crazy rare option, but I can't see VW producing the wrestling mask look for Westfalia's.
